I imagine the Scarecrow role was supposed to go to the Joker originally. Nah, the movie we got would have been completely different. David Goyer has said a few times that the original idea he and Nolan were kicking around while working on and wrapping up The Dark Knight was for the third film to have Joker going on trial for his crimes, and for him to play a Hannibal Lecter-type role where Batman comes to him in Arkham to have Joker help him try and figure out the new villain's mindset. Huh, that's literally the first I've ever heard of that particular plot. Doesn't sound horrible but it doesn't sound great either although, seeing as the trilogy was originally planned to follow a similar story as Year One and the Long Halloween, I could see Batman consulting with criminal to find another BUT Joker could and would never outright help Batman. Ever. He'd give him everything he needed to solve the problem but he wouldn't give him answers, that's the weird relationship they have.

Joker would have messed with Banes "let Gotham die slowly" way of thinking too much. Joker would probably have turned face just to screw with Bane's plan because it amused him. Yeah, I can see that.

According to IMDb the Joker was not mentioned out of respect for Heath Ledger.
Which sorry, is a pretty dumb reason if you ask me.
Because with exception to the Harvey Dent stuff, the arguably best movie in the trilogy is pretty much glossed over.
I'm sure no one would have been upset if the Joker was brought up or mentioned.

He showed up with a crowbar in the first five minutes of John Blake's Batman career.

Did he not like working on the movie or something? It is in the case that if they had mentioned it, they absolutely would have been accused of cashing in on his death. I think someone had the right of it earlier, that mentioning him at all would have just made people wonder when he'd show up, etc, while Dent could be mentioned as he was dead in-story. Furthermore, he had nothing to do with the plot, so not mentioning him didn't really stand out. Dent was imperative to the plot.

This is the real nerd in me here saying this but if Batman exists in the same universe as other heroes, then Superman would have been in Gotham in an instant. This has always bothered me about comics and comic book movies. I know why it doesn't happen, but still.

Take Avengers for example, how many Marvel superheroes operate out of New York? Loki is trying to take over the entire city (and then the world), where are the Fantastic Four, Spiderman, etc. while this is happening?

That's an acceptable answer for me only due to Marvel having multiple realities of canon. Avengers would have gotten bonus points from me adding easter egg cameos though, like seeing Spiderman swinging through the background in a scene.

Different reality/universe. But they're supposed to be in the same universe (Marvel's heroes in Marvel's Universe, etc). I know it's different movie studios but since they all exist in the same place other heroes should show up. But this happens in comics as well and it's always stuck out for me. I figure if you live in a Universe where Superman exists, he'd probably show up all the time. I guess you could use the old standby excuse - Supes was off-planet for a few months.

They were going to add the Oscorp building but didn't have time to do it. Not much of a cameo but it's something.
