While logic would dictate that Rock vs. Punk for the WWE title will still happen because a) the Rock announced he was going to be in the WWE title match at Raw 1000 and b) Punk responded by turning heel and making the Rock Go to Sleep and c) Punk has been calling the Rock out off and on since the 'pipe bomb' promo and d) Rock vs. Punk is more of an interesting match-up than Rock vs. Ryback...
I wonder, if only because Raw next week is the first live show of the year. Ryback vs. Punk has been advertised for more than a couple of weeks. Ryback vs. Punk will be the first legit one-on-one match since their Hell in a Cell encounter. The Rock has been advertised for the show.
With all these factors, do you think WWE would hot-shot the title onto Ryback to try to pop a rating? Maybe Ryback could have a Luger-esque WCW 1997 run before Punk gets his title back or Ryback's win revoked so that Rock vs. Punk might have some extra heat on it (plus enough motivation for a Ryback Royal Rumble win)?
I'm not saying this SHOULD happen, but if it does I can't say I'd be surprised.
Agree or disagree?

Don't know.. I just don't see them ending a 400+ day title reign on anything other than a big PPV

Ryback needs SOME kind of win; he's lost 3 PPVs in a row. Perhaps beating Zack Ryder or Kofi Kingston can maintain his aggression.
I, for one, would love to see Ryback win the WWE title for a week just to mindf*** everyone who has been yawning and waiting for Punk/Rock (such as myself).
I want a Russo Swerve for the sake of a swerve; it gives Ryback a huge win and momentum, if only for a week (or even 4 days), and keeps him looking like a threat.

I'd like to think so.
Most people will say they don't want hot shot booking or whatever. But at this stage I just want to see what is most exciting. For me Ryback winning the title would be exciting. Firstly because I like Ryback and he needs a big win sometime soon and secondly because it would make the entire landscape of WWE 100x more unpredictable. And unpredictability is, historically, the big attraction to WWE/F. That's what gets people watching and talking. Doing stuff no one expected.
Also I have never seen the logic that 'hot potato' booking devalues a title. So I have zero problem on that front either.

It would be a much better story for Rock to come in and unseat the long reigning CM Punk then it would be for Rock and Ryback fighting at the Rumble... just because or Ryback winning the title only to lose it back to Punk a mere week later and come off looking like a total fluke champion.
There's no scenario that would work for him to win at this point, but at the same time he really doesn't need to lose again either. At least in a TLC match though he doesn't have to be pinned.

It would, at least, be a BOLD move by WWE.
But no. They don't do bold unless its by accident or one of the talents going completely off the rails.

Ryback vs. Rock would be a completely new scenario. We'd see something different from the Rock other than, "Make Jokes and Agitate the Heel". Ryback's character allows him to not be buried on the mic by The Rock or any other "Insult Comic" type of wrestler. He can just no-sell Rock's comedy and obliterate him, which would really help make him look like a threat.

And I liked it! Don't know what happened to everybody else. When everyone was saying "Anybody but Cena", I meant it!

I kinda think they could have had Ryback win at HIAC and hold the Shield debut back a month and have that at TLC giving Punk the title back.
Yeah Punk doesn't get his "title reign" number, but who cares? You get Ryback that win, a strong Shield Debut, AND Rock/Punk. And a pissed off Ryback in the rumble match.

No. But it could end in shennanigans to get a triple threat match at the Rumble.
Granted that is even more unlikely but it could keep Punk or Rock from losing at the Rumble. Sucks that Ryback has been trampled these past few months but he shouldn't be near the WWE championship anyway. He should be facing Big Show for WHC.

Ryback goes to grab the belt and the Shield comes out. John Cena to the rescue, he fights off The Shield. just as Ryback is about to grab the belt he stops and attacks Cena and lets Punk grab the title. Shield and Maddox were not working with Punk and Heyman the whole time but working with Ryback with orders from Heyman without Punk's knowledge so he couldn't be implicated. None of it makes sense yet it all makes perfect sense.

Also I have never seen the logic that 'hot potato' booking devalues a title. So I have zero problem on that front either. While it was still hot-shot booking, the title trade-offs between the Rock and Mankind during late 1998-early 1999 I think helped to make the title seem more important, and the matches a lot more exciting as a result. Though if Ryback loses on Monday and if he doesn't subsequently win the Rumble, it kind of squashes his momentum. But even if he does win the Rumble, he'll likely get booked against Big Show despite feuding with Punk since late September or so. At the very least, it will make the next couple of Raws much more interesting to watch if they book this Monday to end with a Ryback win. Otherwise, watching Raw between now and the Rumble will be like treading water, simply waiting for the big matches to occur on PPV.

God, I hope not. Ryback should just go for the World Title in a program with Big Show. He's not in Punk or Rock's league, IMO.
And while I'm far from a fan, I do think Ryback has potential atleast in the short term as a draw for casual fans who just want to mindlessly chant "Feed me more!".
Ryback feuding with Rock would likely kill him to that audience. Because there's so much for Rock to make fun of, and Ryback sucks on the mic so he'd be buried in a heartbeat and exposed for the one-dimensional joke that he is.

That would practically ruin the entire meaning of Punk's run and subsequent loss to The Rock at Rumble. So, I'm saying not much of a chance... but you know how the old saying went: "anything can happen in the World Wrestling Federation."
