Hmmm, I wonder who most of the people that said the Avengers was overrated might have been. Fans of another big comic book movie of the year, perhaps? I would have added DKR to the list as well to be honest. Both films were fairly over-rated. But I'm not a big superhero DC/Marvel fan either way so they both were only 'entertaining' to me, but nothing that made me that excited to ever watch them again.

There's a sequence in the Avengers during the massive battle against the Chitauri where the camera follows every single member in their individual battles. The way it cuts, the way it follows the individual members, is the single closest scene I've ever seen in a movie to replicating how a comic book feels. It felt like reading from panel to panel.
Sin City used the comics to storyboard, the various Superman movies often end with scenes reminiscent of a comic book's splash page, Hulk tried to move from scenes to scenes as if they were panels and the space between the gutters, Spider-Man 2 had a pitch-perfect reference to the cover of Spider-Man #50 with Peter throwing the costume in the trash and turning to walk away. And yet, I've never seen anything like the Chitauri battle. And that's not even counting the Thanos scene, which functioned better than any single scene I've ever seen as a splash page, a "Next Issue!" tag.

It embraced its source material but adapted for the screen as well

Don't you have to be rated to be over rated so how did Project X get on it?

I'm confused as to why Project X was in the poll as well. It was a critical dud and only did about $100 million worldwide.

Honestly, Avengers was SO hyped that no matter how good it was it would've still been overrated.

I'd have to agree with the Avengers. I liked it a lot, but it didn't really blow me away. Not trying to bash the film at all, but it wasn't anything remarkable - I wouldn't see it again or buy the bluray. And this is coming from a huge Firefly/Serenity fan who even watched...Dollhouse. This I'm another Whedon-head and I certainly liked Avengers but I wouldn't call it great.

Looper, considering the hype around it I thought it was decidedly below average sci-fi.

The seasons were short and the spectre of cancellation loomed over their heads. The overall pace of the show seemed to be thrown-off and the ending was really rushed. Would've been better if Whedon could let things play-out at a more natural pace.

There you go. Also, being over-rated is under-rated.

TDKRises (Returns is awesome) by a country mile.
Although good, It's not great (And that's from a DC fanboy).

The most surprising thing on that list is that Project X came out in 2012. I honestly thought that movie came out in 2010.

People rated Project X? I thought everyone that had a brain thought it was rubbish.

I loved that Whedon kicked it into gear when the cancellation was obvious, and thought the show was fantastic down the stretch. Don't think it's as good on the whole as Buffy or Angel (although it never had Buffy's lows), but I'd take it over Firefly.
