Because he's an ugly, ugly man. And regardless of what people may say about acceptance and equality, they still, by and large (of course, you'll always find the odd person out there who loves them some fuggo wrestlers), in general, aren't all that comfortable with their favored wrestlers being hideous. I don't think he looks that bad, personally. There's been FAR uglier wrestlers that have achieved more.

They missed the ball by not acting on the Albert chants sooner, he's only started aknowledging them recently, he should have from the beginning.

Because his return gave us so much ammo for ridicule that we haven't been able to stop. I think we might have a problem. Or not. Probably not. Yeah, I'm gonna go with not.

why was it so important that WWE say the name. They acknowledged he was a returning star. Because I feel it comes across as making the fans seem dumb by not remembering him or something they want fans to forget. Plus, if they mentioned his old name, I feel it could curb the "Albert" chants if he acknowledged his past and gave an explanation for the new name. No one chanted "Let's Go K-Kwik" when R-Truth came back or chanted "Nicky" at Dolph Ziggler (aside from the Cena "shoot", Ziggler's past was never acknowledged in a kayfabe context, only in snarky "wink wink nudge" jokes or in shoot interviews). And no one chanted "Idol Stevens" at Damien Sandow. Those are all bigger examples of "insulting the fans' intelligence" than Tensai/Albert ever was.

And no one chanted "Idol Stevens" at Damien Sandow. Those are all bigger examples of "insulting the fans' intelligence" than Tensai/Albert ever was. How so? The most prominent of those was K-Kwik, and he had been gone for like eight years (I forget the exact dates, but somewhere there about) and even back in the day was basically a jobber whose biggest accomplishment was winning the Hardcore title back whenever just about everybody got a run or ten with the thing. Anyway, yeah. Personally, I think it's a mix of being a crappy gimmick and a wrestler who just isn't that great. He's not bad by any means, he's just unspectacular and that's easy to turn to complete garbage if you package it wrong.

All right, I did another quick look for this mysterious fast and athletic version of Albert in Japan. The first two matches that come up in a youtube search are v. Kurt Angle from 2009 and v. Takashi Sugiura from 2011. Albert is noticeably slimmer in the 2009 match, but his style isn't particulary fast and athletic. He does yell a lot. He's even slower in the Takashi match. He stops after every move to catch his breath, and by the end of that 30 minute match, he's downright glacial in speed. Though, he still does yell a lot. And the announcer seems excited. I think part of the appeal as that he does LOOK like a monster next to a sub-6-foot, 180 pound guy.

It's more about who's memorable though and how good the gimmick is. R-Truth, Ziggler, and Sandow were way more memorable and over with better gimmicks than K-Kwik, Nicky, and Idol Stevens. Unmemorable jobbers that the average fan doesn't really remember. Tensai? He was one of the Attitude Era's upper midcarders, involved in loads of angles over the years as Albert and A-Train. And not to mention his previous antics or accomplishments feels like it's insulting.

As has been pointed out, they DID acknowledge his prior run, and never claimed he was Japanese. How long should they have gone on about the prior run? If they did a pre-debut vignette about the evolution from Albert to Tensai, would he suddenly have become a legit main eventer? Would it have made that much of a difference?

Was he this big when he was last in the WWE? He seemed leaner then. Or maybe it was all the body hair that somehow masked his bulk....

I know that they've acknowledged it, but I think it's the fact that they just don't say who he was and seemingly want people to just be okay with that. I don't think it's that big an issue myself, but when you ignore the "Albert" chants it just makes people want to chant it more.

I think it's more that "Albert" isn't considered much of a badass name at all (and no amount of posting pictures of Einstein will change that), and prior to A-Train, his character wasn't exactly a badass either.. They could have had Cole mention that Tensai used to be A-Train every night, and Tensai still would have got the mocking chants every night because no amount of saying "Oh yeah, he used to be the cock-piercer, the SHAVE YOUR BACK guy and the Hip Hop Hippo" is going to make the fans want to mock him any less. It'd be like bitching because they didn't constantly tell us that Kane was Isaac Yankem and Bargain Basement Replacement Diesel (especially after he unmasked).

you know, I think that if next Monday he came out introduced as Albert, fans would chant Tensai at him.

To the average fan, all their seeing is some Fat bold caucasian bloke pretending to be Japanesse.
With that said, I still believe the gimmick could have worked, was just booked very wrong unfortunatly.
