WWE unofficially won the Monday Night War. WCW promoted how Mick Foley, a former wrestler in their promotion, would win the WWE Championship on WWE's program. That's put butts in the seats. Oh it did. A massive amount of homes swapped channels to witness history. Back on the other hand, WCW did an unspeakable tome of the 'fingerpoke'. While WCW would be competitive a bit longer, it would ultimately lose their fan base. Two years later, WWE bought their once-jauggernaut competition. badbookingblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/how-wwe-beat-wcw-in-monday-night-war.html

To be honest I dont think it was just the announcment of Foley winning the title causing people to switch over, that episode of nitro was dreadful, with the whole goldberg getting arrested thing, fingerpoke of doom and the interviews with the police which the camera crew were present for for some reason, loads of glaring plotholes in that whole night. and if I remember correctly the rest of the show was very lackluster as well

I demand a drunk Grace Slick to sing "Who won the war?" to celebrate this occasion.

Funny thing is, I remember the next day on CNN, they did a story on how Hogan had defeated Nash the previous night for the title with the fingerpoke.

Once Turner was out, the brass at Time Warner wanted nothing to do with wrestling. Ted Turner had a soft spot for WCW so if he stayed in power, he would have kept WCW on life support until it can't go any longer.

Still the best pop in wrestling history for Austin? I have to say, the Lesnar one came pretty close this year.

Holy s**t, how had I forgotten that Mankind winning *and* the Fingerpoke of Doom were on THE SAME NIGHT? WWE.com has an interview with Foley and Nash about it. Oh, Nash...never change. *rolls eyes* Wow. *clears throat* WOW.

Man, did that crowd rule. You know something's going well when not even Del Rio could hold back a smile from the "Si! Si! Si!" chants.

We're also three years removed from TNA's initial attempt at re-igniting the Monday Night Wars, and Bret Hart's return to the 'E.

We're also three years removed from TNA's initial attempt at re-igniting the Monday Night Wars, and Bret Hart's return to the 'E. The sad thing is, outside of Dixie and Hogan/Bischoff, EVERYONE knew it was going to be a ginormus disaster

I mean, they did switch right after the announcement was made. Actually, if I remember correctly, they had that night won with the promised main event between Hogan and Nash. After Foley won, they switched back to Nitro, but the damage was already done. I find it amazing that once the calender flipped, WCW wasn't as competitive as they use to be. Yeah, they were getting their butts whopped then, but they at least managed to gain some edge over WWF every now and then (Goldberg vs. Hogan, DDP vs. Goldberg night after Halloween Havoc). In 1999, WCW fallen to the point of no return.

WCW failed so much as it continued. I mean does anyone really remember Billy Kidman beating Hogan? Does anyone remember Sid being WCW Champion? I only found these things out way later.
