One of the big complaints about the WWE is that they care too much about the main eventers. But it's a tough thing to "fix" when the same fans think anyone who isn't a main eventer is worthless. I don't think Ryder's very good, but he's a relatively popular lower card guy, what's wrong with that? By definition, lower card guys are going to lose against midcarders and higher. They're not going to be in significant storylines. They're going to job a lot, maybe do some comedy, pop up as supporting players in storylines from time to time. A wrestling promotion needs guys like that, and Ryder fits that role pretty well. It's really tough to make fans care about those guys, but some fans actually care about Ryder, which is great. I just wish some fans were better at just appreciating their favorites (whether it be Ryder or Christian or whoever), without being miserable if their guy in on top. It's OK to have a favorite wrestler who's not on top. The problem is that Ryder should be having solid matches with other guys on his level. He should be having back and forth efforts against Heath Slater or David Otunga, not being used strictly as fodder.

Um, why does everyone seem to think that Zack Ryder has the power to change his gimmick and end up with the new one on TV? Good point, he even has to get permission before making minor changes (like the months it took to change his style of tights). I agree with others saying that there's no reason he shouldn't have feuds with the likes of Otunga and 3MB.

He got to meet, shake hands with, hug and have a backstage segment with Hugh Jackman (a man crush of mine), for that reason I will give him another 6 months before i myself completely turn on him

In 2011, CM Punk complains about Vince McMahon's imaginary brass rings and ends up winning the WWE title twice that year.
In 2012, Zack Ryder complains about Vince McMahon's imaginary brass rings and ends up looking like a fool by Kane and Eve Torres (which did make for some hilarious TV admittedly) and then struggles to get booked decently for the rest of the year.

Merch sales and dues paid, Punk is more important than Ryder by a long shot. He was also in a position to say these things which even then got him a swift burial by Trips not long after.

Zack Ryder is a meme, and as we seen, most memes come and go

^Is there really a difference? While all of those guys were incredible workers, their claim to fame was mostly their silly skits and promos. DX made their name through silly segments. Chris Jericho and The Rock were the Insult Comics who tore down their opponents with nonsensical insults, and are the prototypes for the "wisecracking comedian face" that WWE currently pegs all of its good guys into. Kurt Angle, while a skilled wrestler, was a huge dork on the mic for the first few years of his run. If these guys weren't funny, I don't think the fans would've ever initially cared about them enough to see them as serious contenders. There's a difference between "wrestler who makes jokes and acts silly" and "goofy character". I agree that Angle/Rock/DX all did funny stuff, but they also had serious stuff to go with it. They had weight, they went through transitions, they were multi-dimensional. They were also their own character. Jericho, HBK, Triple H, and Angle had a TON of different characters during their time, Jericho in particular. At this point, Ryder is a cartoon, a character that can't really do storylines beyond something like "The Miz stole all my spray tan lotion! Tensai stepped on my sunglasses!" I think this character COULD go somewhere, but it's limited because Ryder is limited. Look at this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN7OUXeSb9U It's the shits. Terrible. Piss poor acting with lame jokes, no charisma, and Ryder basically admitting he's a loser. This was months ago by this point. But it's funny, I'll admit, that I totally think if this character were to go heel, basically be a bigger dick version of the Jersey Shore character he has, then it could TOTALLY work. I know that's probably the most generic smark comment of all time (we've all be there, haven't we?) but it's true, imo. It's easy to be a heel. I dunno, I'm rambling here. Sorry.

There's no option for "So sad I forget he exists unless I see him, then forget". He's like The Silence from Dr. Who.

I was talking about this before, where Ryder and Robbie E flipped in their view on the boards. Is it really over Ryder's attitude on twitter? when Robbie E first started in TNA he was a terrible actor, was uncomfortable on the mic, and came off as trying to hard. But since then, he's embraced just being overly goofy and has become very entertaining. Plus, I think Rob Eckos kind of knew that the "Robbie E" gimmick was a lower midcard thing, and he's embraced it. Even when you know he's gonna lose he's entertaining. I still like Ryder, but even when he shows up on tv now he doesn't seem like he's having fun anymore. A guy like Santino always seems to be enjoying himself which is why he can keep losing and then when he wins be accepted.

I think it goes both ways. Even as a Ryder fan, I admit that the guy sucks at most aspects of wrestling and didn't have the talent to back up his hype. And I also think he IS a pathetic, whiny little bitch. But he DID in fact kind of get screwed over.
I think Ryder would accept and embrace his role as a lower midcarder if WWE actually made their lower midcard matter.
