He had a pretty good match with Cesaro.
It's a shame because the crowd really wanted him to win the title tonight and all these screwjobs are probably going to hurt him.

Every time I see things like "He hasn't had a good 1 on 1 non gimmick match" or "All he does is squashes and no sell offense", I often wonder if those same people actually watch his matches or just skip to the meathook and shell shock. I've seen every match Ryback's ever been in, bell to bell. While some of the non gimmick squashes were decent, they certainly weren't good enough to be the main event of a PPV.

I think he might be hurt if he doesn't win the Rumble, which is something that gives him the perception of maintaining momentum. But if he wins the Rumble, I believe that would ensure a match versus the Big Show. And while Shellshocking Big Show to win the WHC would be quite a 'Wrestlemania moment', the WHC doesn't have the perceived value that the WWE title does. And so many guys today seem to lose the special feeling of winning 'the big one' when it's the WHC that they win.
I almost want the Ryback/Shield feud to go to Wrestlemania, then Ryback wins the 2014 Rumble by being kept to look strong throughout the year, and then challenges the WWE champion at Wrestlemania 30. A Rumble win this year for it to be used on the WHC wouldn't be as special in comparison.

Because they weren't main events? They don't always work a main event style match in the undercard.

They can only protect him for so long with gimmick matches.

It was a gimmick match. Anyone could've been in there with CM Punk and it would've been the same or maybe even better. It was everything I would've expected (right down to The Shield interfering) and nothing more.
I'm still not impressed with the Ryback. And he's still getting tons of Goldberg chants, so apparently I'm not alone.

"It was a gimmick match@!!!!" Elimination Chamber. Extreme Rules. Money in the Bank. Hell in a Cell. TLC. Seems like half the year is gimmick matches.
My point wasn't that he's Daniel Bryan. He had a big match, it was hyped as a big match, and when it happened, it felt like a big match, and both parties delivered. Boom. Thats all. A few months back people talked like that guy would explode if a match went more than 5 minutes, or that he'd get silence after he finally lost. Both of these have been proven false.
I didn't say every match would be as good as it was on RAW, but there's absolutely nothing telling me that they can't put the guy in a main event match.

He's getting there. He's not gonna be a techincal wizard or anything, but I'm sure he'll improve very much this year.

I think working a gimmick match presents its own kind of challenges that wrestlers need to address in order to have an entertaining match that's not just garbage being thrown at one another.
Punk/Ryback had a very entertaining TLC match last night and Ryback leveraged every bit of his physical prowess into some good spots.
While he's no "ring general," he's definitely growing into a wrestler who understands how to use his mass beyond "stomp stomp squash!" to tell a story.
A lot of that is probably working with a veteran heel, but still - he handled himself well.
I don't expect him in the main event anytime soon as his next feud is with the Shield.

I think because he looked vunerable at times. Yeah, Punk came back from several of his moves (especially outside the ring) and headkicked him quite a bit to shut his offense up. A bit more than I'd have expected..... Heckuva match, thouh.
