At his current incarnation, could Daniel Bryan be the face of the WWE? He is talented, a good talker, massively over, his merchandise sells, etc. He has all of the tools, so that is why I asked.

Possibly, but I'm absolutely loving him as the delusional meta-face heel right now. It's actually something fresh.
I worry that if Bryan goes fully face, he'd just be 2010 Bryan all over again, except now with a beard and a catchphrase.

I don't know that he could be THE face, maybe. I think he could be a top face though, crowd seems to be willing to be behind him any time he appears these days.
It won't stay that way forever however. If they wrap up his time in Team Hell No and push him though, he could do very well.

Bryan's real value is being the versatile charismatic workhorse, able to get the audience into whatever feud or program WWE sticks him in. Tag team? He'll make it work. Mid-card champion? He'll make it seem like a big deal. WH Champion? He'll make for some great matches.

It could work, but they'd have to get 100% behind him and not make him play second fiddle to John Cena. That goes for anyone, not just Bryan. Anyone they try to position as a top babyface needs Cena to get the hell out of the way, because the audience will never fully gravitate towards the new guy otherwise.

He at least gets some of the loudest and consistent face reactions of the night. Unlike the guy who's likely going to main event Wrestlemania again.

Too small to be the face of the company.

This will lead to a backstage segment next week of Bryan being declared the Goatface of the company.

If his last few years on the indie scene are any indication, where he basically played a version of what he's been playing since his heel turn. But as a babyface. ...Yeah, no, he'd have no problem as a babyface. Saying that though, you might have a point. Due to WWE's habit as of late of stripping anyone who turns face of anything that made their character remotely interesting and unique. Reducing them to smiling, joking, hand slapping sycophants.

Not with that beard. A trim would be in order. He looks too oddball at the moment.

I agree. Clean Cut Bryan is actually very PRETTY!!!!! and looks like the kind of guy who can put on a suit, and do the whole media thing.

Too small to be the face of the company. Size doesn't matter. His ring ability is superb, and his temperament is also something WWE would be glad for a top face to have. He's the kind of guy who could do mainstream interviews and be well spoken and approachable about it. He's not an anti-social like Punk, and he's not cold and distant like Orton. He's got an endearing goofball side to him too which would be a plus when it came to dealing with kids like for Make A Wish.

You're asking different questions in the title and OP though. "What if?" I probably wouldn't watch as much. "Could he?" Yes.

The fact that he's got such an endearing demeanor to him also makes it easier to sympathize whenever he's getting beat up or whatever else wrong is being done to him at the moment.

My question is, what the hell are they waiting for? Daniel Bryan should be defending the WWE Title against Brock Lesnar, on the strength.

They should try it. I mean Cena isn't going to be around forever. How will you know if he can or not unless you take the chance. The guy is mega over. There is nothing that saying he can't. He's over more then anybody. He sell merchandise. No proof that he not drawing ratings or buy rates. He has great matches, so yeah why not give him the ball while Cena is out and see where it goes. Orton isn't the draw they think he is. Numbers proven that over the years.
They need to start finding there new face. Who cares about size when he seems to doing every a Main Event guy should do.
