I was reading the cards of the Starrcade's recently and a few of them stuck out as bad (Lethal Lottery), but this one has to take the cake. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starrcade#1994Mr. T vs. Kevin Sullivan near 20 minute long Nasty Boys match BRUTUS THE BARBER BEEFCAKE IN THE MAIN EVENT FOR THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP what in the world. So WCW's biggest show of the year, their Wrestlemania, their Super Bowl. they pick Brutus the Barber as the guy to opposite Hogan?? I was 4 at the time so I was not watching, but can someone who was tell me if this made sense? Like at the time did this look like it was a good show? Were things well built up to it at least? What were the angles going on at the time? Where's Ric Flair? I just don't comprehend what I'm looking at.

Hogan's ego was running wild like never before.
And why was Ric Flair gone? Hogan retired him...just because.

I remember watching that event on DSF in German and thinking "WTF, this isn't WCW anymore". It was ridiculous.

That might be the worst looking card I've seen since the 1999 Survivor Series.

Ric Flair lost the WCW world title to Hogan in Hogan’s first match at WCW. A month later Flair beat Hogan by count out at a Clash of the Champions. At Halloween Havoc Flair put his career on the line against Hogan. Hogan won the match and Flair was “retired” for a few months.
At Saturday Main Event a masked man attacked Hogan from behind and injured his knee. When Hogan got revenge, he took off the mask and found out that Brother Bruti was the attacker. Bruti claimed that he was sick of being in Hogan’s shadow and a main event to Starcadde was made. Bruti then joined the Dungun of Doom and changed his name a million times. A little over a year later he turn face claiming that Hogan and Savage put him in the Dungun of Doom in order for him to spy on the stable. He was always an ally to Hogan that made the Starcadde main event useless.

He was always an ally to Hogan that made the Starcadde main event useless. He was not a Hogan ally the whole time. He was a spy for Hogan as Zodiac, not as the Butcher. It made sense, too, that he would want revenge on Sullivan as they had a falling out a few months after Starrcade but prior to the start of the Dungeon of Doom in the late-spring of 1995.

I wish I could remember where it was but I vividly remember a moment where Zodiac stopped some of the other Dungeon members from attacking Hogan by saying "No.....Friend" and I always saw that as a hint that he was their spy

It was around Jan. or Feb. 1996, shortly before he actually turned face and became Booty Man.

I think you're using these examples to try to hide the real reason you're upset: Alex Wright defeated Jean-Paul Levesque (14:03) Wright pinned Levesque with a roll-up. .... You're really Triple H, aren't you?!?!

And what was the point of the Hogan / Beefcake feud. To buy time in between feuds with Flair and Vader. Vader already won the number one contendership at Fall Brawl, so when Hogan was done with is progame with Flair, logic tells me Vader would be next in line.

Basically Hogan pre NWO WCW was Hogan and Friends. So of course Hogan best friend was going to get a Main Event. Because WCW gave anything Hogan wanted. Of course the Nasty's Hogan best friends was getting long matches that no fans wanted too see. WCW was so cartoonly booked it was hard to watch at times. Because Hogan would no sell everyone like crazy. One thing I hated about Hogan and Flair was Hogan would always make Flair his personal whipping boy and Flair wouldn't stand up for himself.

Funny thing is, go back and look at WCW earlier in the year. Flair, Sting, Vader, Rude, Windham, Bossman, Steamboat, Austin, Regal, Rhodes, Badd, Pillman etc, putting on great matches. Injuries did a number on Rude and Steamboat, but still, depushing almost all of those guys for Beefcake, Duggan, Honky Tonk Man, Kevin Sullivan, Mr. T, Avalanche, etc is beyond ridiculous.

Was Barry Windham around in 1994 outside of Slamboree and the match with Flair for the WCW title? I thought the Slamboree match was his first appearance since Beach Blast the previous year when he lost the NWA title to Flair?

In some ways, this was a worse time at WCW than 1999-2000. There are several interesting sidelights/ironies regarding this time in WCW:
1) The person most responsible for this was Eric Bischoff. He'd gotten control of WCW almost unexpectedly and given primetime TV. He was desperate to make it work. When Hogan came in, Bischoff not only paid him more money than anyone else in the business by far, but also gave him unprecedented creative control. As a result, Hogan never allowed himself to look weak, and got jobs(and pushes) for friends who otherwise would not have been hired. Bischoff allowed this behavior to occur, and is therefore ultimately responsible.
2) Ric Flair was responsible for bringing Hogan in. Hogan was out of the business at the time, but had put out feelers that he was open to returning. Flair suggested that he and Bischoff talk to Hogan and make him an offer. His thanks was to be de-pushed and made to look like he could not even compete with Hogan.

The time period between Hogan's arrival and the debut of Monday Nitro has got to rank as the worst period of WCW. Pre-Hogan (1992 and 1993) I really really loved WCW as a nice, wrestling-based alternative to the cartoonish (outside of Bret, of course) WWF. Post-Monday Nitro (particularly after Hogan's heel turn), well, we all know that story pretty well. But this period of Hogan vs. the World was just awful. But the long-awaited Hogan vs. Flair feud did pretty good PPV numbers for WCW (though it was definitely the law of diminishing returns) and that led Bischoff to assume that Superhero Hogan = ratings, even though a large portion of the WCW audience HATED Flair being made to look like a buffoon, and once Flair was retired, WCW did bad numbers (wasn't the buyrate for this Starrcade absolutely horrible, considering it was supposed to be WCW's biggest show, which led to a very quick de-push of the Butcher?). I was 10 for this event, and even I knew that there was no way Beefcake was going to beat Hogan, which took a lot away from the match and the whole card. Who in 1994/95 cared about seeing the Honky Tonk Man wrestling important matches, espcially against (at the time...heh) rising stars like Johnny B. Badd?
