Kids actually like it believe it or not. I went to a lot if white kids parties growing up, this was always the CD of choice. Something about kids being able to relate to the voices better.

Yeah, something like that. I remember when I was like nine and those things started coming out. A bunch of kids my age and younger loved the shit out of them but I always thought they were annoying, give me the originals all the way. Although, if they did a gangsta rap version I'd be all over it, who doesn't wanna hear adolescents sing Bitch Better Have My Money or It Was a Good Day?

This is exactly it. This phenomenon is still HUGE (Kidz Bop does incredible CD sales business, even nowadays), and the scrubbed-up quality of the music (so no surprises for parents) and the relatability are huge draws. Personally, I feel like you're just listening to amateur hour versions of massive songs that are tough to top (production or vocal-wise), but I still see the appeal from the kids' POV.

the unintentional hilarity of children singing songs with wildly inappropriate subtext? They usually change lyrics, though,to eliminate outright and even subtle contexts... It's embarassingly lame, but yet funny in a way. It's like the musical version of dubbing swear words out of movies aired on broadcast/basic cable TV.

Listen to Starships by Kidz Bop and you'll understand the appeal. "We're Kidz Bop and we're taking over!"

You see, they're kids....and kids have notoriously bad taste in music.

I adore that the Kidz Bop version of "Bring Me to Life" changes absolutely nothing.
Hearing children say "save me from the nothing I've become" makes my heart fill with joy.

It pissed me off when they started using Green Day songs. Boulevard of Broken Dreams is not a kids' song. Nor is Wake Me Up When September Ends.

the unintentional hilarity of children singing songs with wildly inappropriate subtext? I think they should just say F*** it and make a straight up hip-hop Kids Bop album. I will mark hard if I heard children's voices shouting "I REMEMBER!" I wish there was an App, or website, where you could "Kidz Bop-ify" any song you wanted.

The Whisper Song was on it.
