I used to be as big a fan as anyone. But for the last few years I just have not been able to be as interested, and lately I have lost all interest whatsoever. The thing that really turns me off is that it feels like Seth McFarlane has just plain run out of material and is recycling himself, and that rather than actually being funny there seems to be a greater emphasis on just trying to shock the audience. They've taken the "gross out" kind of jokes too far and don't seem to have anything genuinely witty and clever anymore. And a lot of humor seems to have become downright cruel rather than just mocking. I am getting the impression that McFarlane is almost deliberately trying to get the show cancelled so he can move on.

I just hate how the show pretends it's this counter culture thing when in fact it couldn't be anymore mainstream. I can levy this same criticism to South Park but that show still entertains me.

After the success of Ted, he may be looking to move on to feature film-even though Ted was basically just Family Guy with different characters.

Wow, if anything South Park still seems like it's engaging in counter culturism. (But, unlike FG, SP is consistantly good and funny and it's moreorless beloved by all...) To me, Seth MacFarlane has been a big money mainstream guy for several years now. Cripes, did you see who's hosting the Oscars this year?? FOX bringing FG back in the 1st place seemed to "legitimize" him. Also, he even admits they're running on fumes - Groening's never said that, Trey & Matt have never said that.

It's funny, I watched "Inside the Actors Studio" on Youtube last night with the cast of Family Guy and Seth's thesis film that they showed was almost exactly like Family Guy except the characters looked a bit different. I personally still love Family Guy and think it's a funny show, but I can see where others dislike it.

I actually gave up on Family Guy a long time ago. It just doesn't do it for me anymore.

Seth McFarlane's shows are one-note jokes. How they've lasted this long I'll never know.

Try saying that about American Dad. Pretty much a different show, altogether.

Pretty much a different show, altogether. agreed. aside from a cast who at least on paper seem like similar characters the show has really evolved into its own thing, and lacks a lot of the "Macfarlanisms" in some of his other shows. I can't say the same for The Cleveland Show, though.

Look at the myriad 80's refrences and drug jokes. That's half of television comedy of the past 20 years. I'm not the biggest "American Dad" fan, but the characters themselves are far deeper than gender-based vessels for their designated jokes. They're much more three dimensional and developed than "Family Guy's." I think "Family Guy's" been on a bit of an upswing over the past year or two. I haven't caught much, but I really enjoyed last year's Thanksgiving special and this year's Christmas special. And "South Park's" still super counter-culture, but that counter just happens to be popular for how great it is. Nothing you can really mock them for about that.

I like both shows, but South Park can be quite formulaic as well. Wait for something to happen in the media, then mock the hell out of it.

I still enjoy the show, but it wouldn't surprise me if Seth has given up on it considering he said it should've ended already.

Hey, say what you want about Family Guy; I know I have. But there's one thing everyone can take solace in:
It's not Bob's motherf***ing Burgers. We don't need two of those.

It's akin to calling a western formulaic because it has a cowboy in it.

But more on-topic, yeah, FG has an okay joke here and there, but the show itself is a dead rotting corpse of what it used to be.
