That doesn't make sense at all. The gameplay itself should be the same across platforms. It's not like there's some kind of motion control gap... Maybe he means the controllers? I think the controllers are part of it. Again,I would have thought having a PS2 that it would have been easy for me to pick up. The gameplay does seem smoother to me as well even though I'm sure it most likely isn't. Again,it may come down to the controllers. As I said before,I'm honestly not bashing anyone who prefers one over the other. It makes no difference to me. As long as you enjoy what you have, that's all that matters.

Isn't this actually a slightly misleading figure? I've read it's merely units shipped. As actual sales to the consumer it wouldn't be this high. Plenty of consoles are sitting gathering dust in stores. Video game sales are tracked in terms of units shipped, not units actually sold to consumers. It's been this way for as long as I remember. It actually isn't. The original SIXAXIS controllers felt really cheap and the motion control was really gimmicky and stupid. Fortunately it seems most PS3 games have pretty much dropped SIXAXIS support and all the shoehorned motion control crap has gone over to the Move. The Move is probably the least offensive of the motion control gimmicks present in the three consoles, though I still hate the concept as a whole. The Dual Shock 3 added some weight to the controller, though the biggest issue I have with the controller, the L2 and R2 trigger/button... things is still there. Plus other stuff from the PS2 controller I'm annoyed carried over to the PS3 like the position and segmentation of the D-Pad and the position and feel of the analog sticks.

Plenty of consoles are sitting gathering dust in stores. There aren't plenty gathering dust, if there were places wouldn't be order them and Sony wouldn't be shipping them. The shipped number is more than the sold but not by much. And also as stated it is the same numbers MS uses. So Sony has shipped more than MS which means they have sold more as well, it is cause and effect. As for the talks about the PS3 controller feel versus the 360. I have triggers added to my PS3 with little clip ons and because of that they feel much better to me than the normal way and a little better than the 360. I also have a joystick extender that gives you more range and precision, makes the PS3 controller perfect. And lastly, I posted this news int he PS3 thread yesterday or the day before and got no sold, and I fully blame Koda for that as he is the one guy I should be able to count on to grab that stuff and run with it.

I got my PS3 in 2010 when they dropped the Sixaxis so please pardon my ignorance... And I mean that genuinely and not in a smartassy way.

While PS3 sales may be better, I think this generation still took a toll on Sony with the bad press they've gotten.

I like my Xbox, and as a predominant player of sports games, I feel i made the right call. ALTHOUGH
- I play American games, and had to get another console for NCAA and baseball stuff.
- MLB The Show being PS exclusive is depressing. The 2K games are good, but very buggy. I remember MLB 2K8 couldnt handle the winning sequence for the World Series. Yes, you read that right, you win the World Series, YOUR GAME CRASHES.
If Xbox 720 isnt region free/backwards compatible, and PS4 is both, then we have a winner.

Holy f*** the xbox 360 is 8 years old and ps3 is 7 years old! How about they give this a break? I hate that they still have these old ass consoles pumping out games. Even the Wii got a graphics upgrade.

Even the Wii got a graphics upgrade. A graphics upgrade that puts it about on par with its "old ass" competitors. It should hardly be surprising to anybody that we haven't seen new consoles from Sony or Microsoft. Back in 2005, analysts were predicting that this generation could last upwards of a decade, just because of the long ass time it would take either system to become profitable.

Units shipped is still sales. I mean Sony and Microsoft don't give these things to retailers for free. Granted stores don't buy them at retail price, but it's still units sold.

New console hardware is the one thing that stores sell at cost or if it does make profit for the store, it's completely insignificant. It's why they were the only thing completely off limits for the employee discount when I worked at Gamestop.

Even the Wii got a graphics upgrade. To be fair, this is the first generation where the power and the online capabilities are really there for game systems. I mean, not even counting how powerful both systems still are but you can just do so much on a PS3 or Xbox 360 that you couldn't before that really, 10 years is probably the minimum to take advantage of it all. To be honest, PS4 and Xbox 720 is probably going to have a similar lifecycle.

The fact the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player probably has nothing to do with it ... wait.

Yeah, when you make them more comprehensive media centers, rather than pure game consoles, replacing them every four or so years becomes less practical.

Hell had the Wii not been as weak as it was graphically and it had a better, more unified online set up, we wouldn't even have the Wii U right now, I'm betting.

I think we still might've gotten the controller since (from what I know at least) Nintendo probably could've made it work on the original Wii with some sort of hardware attachment and a software update.

The fact the PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player probably has nothing to do with it ... wait. To be fair, that was a big part of the PS2 success too. It and DVDs went mass market at the same time, many DVDs at the time came with a big "compatible with PlayStation 2" on the packaging. I know a lot of people think Sony's marketing people are idiots, but they're VERY good at pushing new technology with new products. From the Walkman to the PS3, they've really been a leader in it.
