Probably the Benoit incident. The cloud that cast over the entrie business was overwhelming at times. A lot of people were distancing themselves from wrestling and condemning fans of it. I imagine if you were just getting into it, it would be hard to stay invested.
Another answer would be Vince mocking JR's Bells Palsy would be awkward to jump in on.

Not true. I started watching regularly in 2003 and loved it. I hated triple H in the "I want him to lose the WHC" kind of way and I kept tuning in every week to see Goldberg destroy him.

While there are many worse, I would say any promo involving The Rock these last couple of years. Someone might have seen him in a movie, liked him, and decided to tune in to wrestling to see him in his original element. Then they find that his act basically consists of dumb high school jock level insults while recommending the shoving of various objects up other men's asses. And worse yet, a crowd filled with a bunch of adults chants along with it. I am used to it and I still question why I watch wrestling during those Segments. I can't imagine what it's like for new fans.

There's been many people I know that started watching wrestling because The Rock came back and absolutely loved anything he did.

CM Punk calling out Jerry Lawlers heart attack. That actually had mainstream news coverage his heart attack! So their maybe knowledge from people that his heart attack wasn't fake.

Anyone else find it hilarious when looking at youtube comments for a somewhat-recent WWE video, you'll see things like "THE PG ERA SUCKS, RIP REAL WWE 2004-2008" I can't imagine starting watching anytime after 2002 and enjoying it.

Oh yes. I've seen all sorts in that regard, maybe the silliest being along the lines of "RIP ATTITUDE ERA 1996-2008" Rose tinted specs and all that. That era from 2004-2008 is one of my absolute least favourites.

I hadn't watched wrestling on any kind of regular basis since 2004/2005 and got back into it for a few months in mid-09, thanks to Smackdown and working as a projectionist at a movie theater where I would sometimes see bits of the PPVs.

Piggy James and that 10 minute skit where Layla was running in a fat suit. I was in a bar when that was happening and everyone was like WTF IS THIS SHIT and I'm pretending not knowing anything about wrestling joining in the angry mod demanding to change the channel to late night poker.

I hesitate to ask, but what was that again? Benoit tribute, where no one other than Regal seemed to notice he was a murderer, until it was WAY too late to do anything about it. Wait, Regal knew?

Yeah, though this is the case with just about everything in life, then it just makes you feel old. Like when people talk about how good old school music was compared to today, and then it's something like Offspring. "Huh? Offspring? I remember them playing that pop rock crap all over the radio it was terrible. *looks at calendar* OH SHIT THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO"

Benoit tribute, where no one other than Regal seemed to notice he was a murderer, until it was WAY too late to do anything about it. Wait, Regal knew? Sure seemed like it. His "tribute segment" to Benoit was off, and a totally different kind of off than you'd expect. Of course it's been said that WWE themselves knew before running the show, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Not quite the question asked, but it does put me in mind of the first time my father watched any part of Raw: We were on holiday in New York (my parents, my 10 year old cousin, and myself) in February/March 2000. My parents' room was the only one that had access to the network Raw was on (I think it was still USA, but maybe they'd moved to TNN by then, I can't remember) so my cousin and I watched Raw in their room, while they were reading or something, not really paying attention. Until of course Mae Young went into labour, and gave birth to a hand. My father had a few comments to make about that ![>:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/angry.png) ;D
