Rock dominated 2000. Austin and Rock dominated 2001, while HHH was injured for almost all of that year. Triple H might have been one of the top guys throughout those years, but he was still below those two. HHH dominated Raw 2002-2004, he shared the top spot with Cena and Michaels in 2005 and 2006, and was clearly below Cena from late-2006 onwards. Cena dominated Raw as the undisputed top guy even longer than HHH did. It's a kayfabe article. I was talking kayfabe. Triple H was more dominant as WWF Champion that year than anyone else. The topic was said that we're not taking things like 'who was booked to win the match' into consideration, but even there, Cena's been just as dominant as Triple H. His third WWE title reign was longer than any of HHH's, either as WWF/E or World Heavyweight Champion. I guess you could make the argument that Triple H dominated longer than Cena did, but that's about it.

Definitely.
2000 - Won the main event of 'Mania 2001 - Double champion (IC/Tag); semi-main event with Taker before getting hurt 2002 - Big return; won the Rumble; won main event of Mania and became Undisputed Champion 2003 - WHC champion; co-main event of Mania; Evolution 2004 - WHC champion; main evented Mania; Evolution 2005 - WHC champion; main evented Mania 2006 - Main evented Mania; main storyline from March until end of summer with DX 2007 - return from injury; WWE champion 2008 - WWE champion; co-main event of Mania 2009 - WWE champion; won main event of Mania 2010 - ...
I'd say that's a better run than Cena in those 10 yrs.

He's also responsible for the success of Orton and Batista. I'd easily give him the award. He was a foundation for every single one of those ten years.

So I can see why some people would disagree.

Correct, and that's on top of some of the greatest heel work of all time.

I'm sorry but even in kayfab, marrying the bosses' daughter disqualifies you from any best of lists.

In keyfabe he is and he is the main reason why I stopped watching WWE in the late 90s. If it wasn't for Guerrero, Benoit and the rise of TNA I would probably not have started watching wrestling again in the mid 00s.

Who counts in decades anyway? Plenty of people. Scientists do it all the time. It was even part of this one guy's gimmick. He had been there for like 10 years or something and during that 10 years he left a path of destruction. Oh yeah, I think I remember that gimmick. "Ten years of terror" or something. The biker guy, right?

Can we have another 'Vote of Confidence' with him? I'd love to walk out.

I'd agree. Even when he wasn't in the title picture, he had the DX reunions keeping him busy and in the spotlight.

If I had to pick a single performer who entered into the public consciousness and defined pro wrestling of the '00s for the mainstream in the way Hogan did for the '80s and Austin did for the '90s, I'd say the answer is clear: Chris Benoit.
And not because of his workrate.
...but since WWE's not going to go with that for obvious reasons, eh, might as well call it for Hunter. It's not like it was an impressive decade for wrestling in general.

I want to agree as a huge Triple H fan, but even if he didn't break out until the middle of the decade I have to give it to Cena. I think, even though I know a lot of people will groan, that Triple H is the unsung hero of his active years. He's never had the notoriety to be the guy but in the wrestling world he's one of the biggest stars there are.
Even during the "reign of terror" there was never really a feeling that he was the centerpiece of the company like they put Batista, Randy Orton, Edge, or John Cena out there. Especially John Cena, they took him to Hollywood, he was the only one doing talk shows, he held gold far more consistently. I mean he's almost caught up to Triple H in title reigns in a much shorter time frame that him.

Nope. It's definitely Cena.
Hogan is no doubt the man of the 80s. He didn't debut until '83 and won the title in 84. With the exception of some great feuding with no pay offs with Piper, Hogan beat up a bunch of also rans, like Bundy, Orndorf and Funk, but was guaranteed money and crowd pop. However it wasn't until '87 and Andre turned that he rose to undeniable greatness.
Cena debuted in 2002 and won his first big title in 2005. He was a merch and heat (both good and bad) machine. He's held his own with guys from the midcard to the legends from 2005 on. What more could you ask for?

In the not too distant future, when Triple H is a legend and making appearances every now and then, our kids will ask about him and why he's a legend. And when that day comes, there is only one answer.
We'll tell them of this decade. Of his reign of terror, of being stripped of the belt only to win it and pad his resume, of the runs in DX and why potty humor was applauded. Of his match against Booker T, of the time he pedigreed Kendrick and London because he could, of the vote of no confidence.
And they will weep. For they will never see this man in his prime like we have.
Godspeed Triple H, wrestler of the decade. May your legacy live on forever.
