So I ordered me some wings and thangs and went to pick up my food, and next to the cashiers attractive breast is a tip jar specifically labeled "Take out tips" I also noticed it was empty, but I was actually offended that someone expects me to tip when I had to drive my own car to get the food, and the only job you did was cooking it. No tip for you, what say you FAN?

I was raised to tip, so I do. Not as much as I would if I was sitting down and being served, but I still typically try to put down two or three dollars for them, something. If nothing else, it's a nice gesture, especially considering most of the time when I notice them, they're empty or only have a few pennies in them.

I typically do, but more out of convenience to round out the credit card receipt/not fumble with a lot of coins. After all, we keep being told that tips are for waiters and waitresses, and if you're not using a waiter or waitress, then there's logically no one to tip.

I get take out so I don't have to pay extra for delivery.

Hell no. I tend to tip well when sitting down (I only go down to 15% if you really, really suck, which is almost never), but if I am driving there and thus spending my own gas money to get food that I then have to find some place else to eat, I tip nothing and have no qualms about it.

For a tip jar, you can tip any amount that you like. They're not demanding or obligating you to give an actual figure. You could just put in a penny.

I don't have the costume to tip most of time, but if people point to me to tip,i probably will.
BUT before you say OH MY GOD DON'T BE CHEAP.Let me explain.Where i lived the costume was different and there was no such social acceptance as tips. No one gave tips,no one expected tips(of course people like)
Now that i am living on Canada i must get used to giving tips, but i am still not used so i can easily forget....some people must think that i was a selfish greedy bastards here.

If I pay in cash and there's a change bucket, yes. Otherwise, sometimes.

Nah. If I've got change in my pocket or back from my purchase and they're being really sweet and helpful, I will, but I don't do it as a matter of course.
(This isn't quite the same thing as takeout, but I tip at Ben and Jerry's because I always need to ask the ice cream person to clean the scoop due to my nut allergies. So they go through a little extra process of cleaning the scoop and scooping the top ice cream aside to get to the untouched ice cream below. It's a nice touch that allows me to patronize their business despite my allergies, and I appreciate the extra effort. So I make sure to tip every time.)

I always tip because some of them are really only getting paid less than minimum wage and rely on tips. I know one doughnut place that pays the employees 5.25 so they need tips

Honestly, it really depends what I'm picking up.
If it's something like sushi, Mexican or the type of food at a location where it's typically prepared in front of the customer with a level fo care (and, in my case, the order can get pretty complicated) I do tip.
But if it's something like pizza or anywhere that I'm deliberately picking up to not use their delivery service, then I don't.
Might I add, I'm pretty proud of thi forum that the "i don't tip at all" option is currently at zero. Great job everyone!

Most of the time yes. Many places have the bartender handle to go orders. They are less than minimum wage workers and rely on tips, and they are providing you a service. So you should tip, but not as much as a waiter or delivery person. But if its a non tipped employee who makes at least minimum wage a tip is not necessary, but a dollar or two in a rip jar is nice if you can spare it.

1) So you don't tip ANYWHERE? 2) Where are you from/currently residing? Is it a cultural thing?

Depends on where it is and the service. If I get exceptional service I will. I almost always tip at Quiznos because the two main staff know me, know my order and are very nice. I usually get extra meat and often get upgraded in size or a free drink or extra punches on my loyalty card. They take care of me, I take care of them.

No, I tip waiters. Typically, you're getting paid a full wage just to prepare the food.

I must notice that if i voted on this six months ago i would have voted, for cultural reasons. Not every place in the world tip is seen as a social obligation.Where i lived no one talked about tips(tough tips sometimes happened if the people was REALLY happy).
I heard ,i have no proof that some places(i think that was japan)tip was considered a offense,or as a "pitty" gesture.
