Just had to plunk down $227.65 for one of these. The scary part? I actually have to make much bigger payments on my graduate loan if I ever get a job where I can afford to pay the full amount.
Oh well, at least the one I paid for today is normally just around $40 a month.

I have come to the conclusion that I will never have my student loans paid off

I have a stafford and the student loans. One is 300 a month, the other 85. Right now, I have enough saved up where I can probably have the stafford paid off in a year or 2.

My roommate my sophomore year spent over $6000 in student loans on Pizza, Beer and video games. Did similar all his other years, but that was the big one.
I still can't believe they let people do that.

it's times like these I realize how blessed I am that my mother and grandmother paid my way through university, and I paid my post-grad tuition out of pocket. the cost of school is completely ridiculous and one of the main reasons we have a skilled labour shortage in north america.

I still can't believe they let people do that. I had a friend who did the exact same thing, never bothered to finish school and now he has a massive loan he'll never be able to repay. and he was a special needs student (because he has ADD) so he doesn't even need to ppay back as much as others. I have no sympy.

Consolidate them into DirectLoans. Much cheaper.

Consolidate them into DirectLoans. Much cheaper. Definitely, also you don't have to worry about different interest rates. Before consolidation I had 4 Stafford loans, 2 at 5%, 3 at 6.8%, plus a perkins. I was going to be paying $300+ a month for them across 3 sites, atop a $175 charge for a private Chase loan at 8.82%. Afterwards, I still have the chase loan (now at 8.66%), but the DirectLoan Group (2 loans on a single bill), is now a single $200 payment with 5.75%. But i still have over $40K in student debt

I've been pretty lucky - only about $120/month, but still - considering how much I'm paying in and the fact that I'm jobless right now...meh to college.

Because my family isn't well off, and I don't want to be stuck with debt, I've pretty much sacrificed my entire University (college) experience in order to live at home.
It stinks, but in the long run it should work out for me. Hopefully.

I've been paying $389 another until this past Oct when I finished one off. Now it's ~$300 for my Sallie Mae and Fed Direct. I am just over $6000 left and then I'm done with that. Biggest waste of money EVER!

I was at about $425/month for one and $200/month for the other before consolidating. My wife's loans weren't as much, but $1000+/month wasn't very fun.

I absolutely hate the reality of having to pay back my student loans. There's no reason why anyone should have to take a loan out in order to attend college. Financial aid benefits such as Pell Grants, Lottery, Scholarships, etc should be the only aid needed for college education.
Student loans just create more debt and are a pain to pay back.

I owe $25,000 and when I tell people that they laugh. Most people I know owe so much money the number doesn't even seem real.
One of my friends just graduated from law school and if he pays $1000 a month on his loans he's only covering the interest

One of my friends just graduated from law school and if he pays $1000 a month on his loans he's only covering the interest Hi, I'm one of those people (damn Ivy League education) Still, after hearing about your friend I'm glad I didn't go to law school. Mine are bad, but not quite THAT bad. I think the worst I've heard though is one guy I saw post on a college forum who said he owed around $200,000 for JUST undergraduate. To make it worse he said the average salary in his field was under $30,000 a year. Perhaps fortunately (or unfortunately) he was considering grad school and a change in field. In conclusion student loans SUCK!

I got way more than anyone, so no complaining, people. Learn from me; 1) don't go to medical school on less than 75% free tuition and 2) don't catch Lupus and flunk out.
