I'm not sure what the point of Aces and Eights is at this point. They have newly turned Anderson lose to Angle, and then Devon/Doc lose in the tables match. At some point they are going to have to win or at least look credible outside of hammer beat downs. Why ? So far, we know nothing of the groups' motivations and goals (that another problem, though, but it's besides the point). Maybe they just don't care about winning & getting titles, and they're just keeping TNA's troops busy by throwing at them underlings, while the Aces mastermind is (very) slowly moving the big guns into place, hidden from plain sight. Maybe the Aces n Eights attacks by hired goons are just a smokescreen for the higher power's real masterplan. It has been nearly 8 months since they arrived and they have done nothing but lose matches and not reveal why they are even there. If they are doing what you say they are, then fine, but in the mean time they still have to look like a threat otherwise the audience won't give a damn about them.

They wasted so much time that it doesnt matter why they did what they did.

And honestly, Aries and Roode winning the tag team titles is a big step down for them. It is, but they're boxed out of the main event scene as long as Hardy is Champion (Roode vs. Hardy, Aries vs. Hardy, and Roode vs. Aries vs. Hardy have all been done multiple times) so they might as well dominate the tag division. Storm, Joe, and Styles aren't doing anything of note. Why not feud with them? Putting them in the tag team division doesn't improve it. It hurts the main event picture by not having ready made contenders built up for future title matches. I like Daniels but he spent months losing singles matches until he beat AJ. Suddenly he wins a match for number#1 contender and we suppose to buy him as threat? Especially with him only having a week build up before his title match. TNA suffers from the lack of credible main event heels. A&8 don't solve that problem because they can't win when it counts and act like the Red Shirts from Star Trek.

Why did the hometown Magnus get his big moment at the top of the show, and then disappear? It was great continuity to the angle in November, a Face Turn, and I'd imagine he wanted more redemption, why did he just vanish? I know there are more shows to the taping, but it just seems like weird time management.

Well things are out of order, the 2nd shows spoilers are incomplete, and we don't see backstage segments. Really difficult to judge anything based on these.

i'm starting to think the name Aces and Eights is literal. there's going to be 4 Aces in the group and then the Eights. we've only seen 7 of the 8 so far.

And honestly, Aries and Roode winning the tag team titles is a big step down for them. There's only one direction they can go from where they were at, and they needed to get out of the title scene for their own benefit in the long-term. Let them have some fresh feuds in the tag division, and then cycle Aries and Roode back into the main event scene when Hardy's run is done.

Going to the Wembley Arena show tonight. Wow so I'll be seeing Aries & Roode as tag Champs and Brisco and Bischoff as members of aces and 8's. A lot has changed in the space of a day.

More complete spoilers by Stephen Lyon.
TNA returned to the Manchester Arena for the first ever set of tv tapings from the arena, and their second set ever from the U.K. Crowd looked to be in the region of 4,000, with just half of the arena being used, and all of the upper tier tarped off. Crowd was super hot all night, and coupled with several newsworthy angles and events, this was a very enjoyable show.
The tapings started with the cage match, but this will wind up as the main event of the January 31st show. No backstage segments or interviews were shown on the screen, so I presume a fair amount will be added before broadcast. Before the show, a stage hand was in the ring, repeatedly jumping up and down in the ring, John Tenta-style, to do a sound check, which was quite amusing. Also amusing (but rather random) was that in the generic music they’d played before the show, the WWE NXT tv show theme was played. Tapings were supposed to start at 7:30pm, but Jeremy Borash came out at 7:15pm and started the festivities. Dixie Carter came out and thanked us for all attending the show, and brought out the Blossom Twins, Hannah & Holly. Big crowd pop for the two home town girls. Dixie invited them to come to the U.S. to train, in preparation for getting another hot at signing a TNA deal. Both girls accepted and got a nice reaction. I should mention as well that TNA had merchandise on sale (t-shirts) for Rockstar Spud, Marty Scurll (Scurll the only one of the four who didn't appear tonight) and the Blossom Twins, which I thought was really smart on TNA’s part, to capitalise on the success of the TNA British Bootcamp series. Spud’s in particular was a creative t-shirt, with tour dates on the back of Spud doing ‘rockstar antics’, and appeared to be selling well.
Borash then brought Christy Hemme out, and the two did the opening link to a new TNA tv show, a U.K. tv special that will air on Sunday February 10th at 11pm called ‘TNA Backstage Pass’, which will be a one hour documentary on the behind the scenes of the U.K. tour.
For January 31st IMPACT:
1) Kurt Angle beat Mr Anderson in a cage match. Wes Brisco accommodated Angle to the ring, wearing a suit. Angle-alert. Brisco locked the cage door and kept the key. Throughout the match, Brisco led the fans’ cheers for Angle, really doing the cheerleader-bit. After a decent 10 minute match, Angle gave Anderson an Angle Slam off the top rope, and applied the ankle lock for the submission win. As Angle celebrated, a masked Aces & Eights member climbed into the c age and stood in the corner. The masked man took his mask off to reveal.... GARETT BISCHOFF! At the same time, Brisco entered the cage with the key he had, then locked the door behind him. Brisco then untied his hair, revealing the longhaired look of that other Aces & Eights member, then removed his suit to reveal a trademark Aces & Eights vest and jeans. Garett, Brisco and Anderson stood facing Angle, who was utterly shocked and put his hands to his head. Crowd reacted huge to all of this. The Aces trio then gave destroyed Angle, giving him a three on one beatdown and leaving him laying, before exiting. This was a really well done angle (and so it should be, after months in the making).
Next, Bad Attitude (Chris Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) came out, dressed as extras from the Braveheart movie (as Scotsmen), wearing kilts and blue facepaint. Naturally this got heat. Kazarian said this was throwback Thursday, and that he’d gone 13th century on us. The pair put down England. Daniels said he has the wiggle, that makes all the girls giggle. The pair joked about how Jeff Hardy had gotten ill, and that it must have been toxic poisoning from all the face paint he wears. This was the only mention of Hardy all night. Magnus came out to a huge crowd pop, making his return. He stuck up for his home country and challenged Bad Attitude to a fight. Daniels and Kaz jumped him, but Magnus made his own comeback and cleaned house on both of them, clearing them from the ring. Magnus then cut a promo on the Aces & Eights, explaining how they’d put him out of action and he was gunning for revenge, and as part of Open Fight Night, he was challenging D-Von to a match.
2) Magnus defeated D-Von via D.Q. D-Von came through the crowd, as did all of the Sces & Eights members during their entrances throughout the night. Short match, which saw D.O.C. and Mike Knox run in to save D-Von before he was pinned. Magnus cleared all three from the ring to a big pop.
Next, Joseph Park came out. Park has AWESOME entrance music, like an 1980’s cop show theme tune, complete with a saxophone playing. Park was extremely over, and got one of the biggest crowd pops of the night. Park was about to announce who he was challenging to a fight when he was interrupted by the entrance of Robbie E and Robbie T. Surprisingly, they also initially got a big face pop, with a lot of fans doing the fist pump to E’s music. E was obnoxious, belittled Park, and wiped his ass with Park’s notebook. This angered Park, and the fight was on.
3) Joseph Park defeated Robbie E. Short match, saw Park pin E after a splash off the bottom rope. This was an amusing squash match. Park is such a great character.
Next, Bobby Roode & Austin Aries came out, to a major babyface reaction, particularly for Aries. They explained that they’d try to put their personal differences aside to go after all the titles in TNA, and were starting off with the tag team titles. This brought out Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez. A challenge was made and accepted for Aries vs Chavo, and if Aries won, Aries & Roode would get a title shot ‘next week’.
4) Austin Aries defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. This was a good match, that saw both guys partners in their respective corners. Finish saw Chavo give Aries the 3 amigos, only for Roode to stop the pin attempt. Roode provided the distraction, which allowed Aries to dropkick Chavo in the corner and give him the brainbuster for the win. After the match, Aries and Roode bickered all the way to the back, with Roode insisting he deserved credit for the win.
Bully Ray & Brooke Hogan came out, to a big crowd pop. Ray brought out Sting (similar reaction) and all three asked for Hulk Hogan to come out to reinstate Ray. Hogan did, and reinstated Ray, shaking his hand and burying the hatchet. He then made Sting & Bully Ray vs D-Von & D.O.C. in a Tables Match for ‘next week’.
Next, Velvet Sky came out, called out Tara & Jesse Godderz, and challenged them to a mixed tag team match. They accepted, then Sky brought James Storm as her partner.
5) James Storm & Velvet Sky defeated Tara & Jesse Godderz. Short match, ending when Storm tried to superkick Godderz, only for Tara to drag her beau out of the way. Sky pinned Tara.
6) Rob Van Dam defeated Kenny King & Zema Ion in a three way match for the X-Division title. This was an okay match. Ion looked really good. Finish saw King German suplex Ion, using a bridge to try for a pin attempt, only for RVD to deliver the five star frog splash on King, then pin Ion for the win.
Next, came an in-ring interview, with Borash bringing out Rockstar Spud. Big crowd reaction for Spud, and did his ‘early 1990s Shawn Michaels’ entrance, I suppose you could call it. It got over. He was gracious about winning the British Bootcamp show and was cutting a babyface promo, when Robbies E & T came out. E made fun of Spud, calling him a midget (and Spud was noticeably smaller than E) and said he was a hamster, like everyone from the U.K. This drew a glare from Robbie T, who bowed up to E. E begged off, and Spud decked him and sent him packing. T then did the musical deal where he starts fist pumping uncontrollably, with Spud doing it too. Crowd liked this segment. I’m not sure it will actually air in the U.S. though.
For February 7th IMPACT;
7) Austin Aries & Bobby Roode won the TNA World Tag Team titles, defeating Chavo Guerrero Jr & Hernandez. This was a very good match, going nearly 20 minutes. Lots of heat, with duelling ‘Lets go Aries/Lets go Chavo’ chants, even when both guys weren’t even in the ring. Aries & Roode had several spots where they collided and there appeared to be miscommunication, leading to Roode walking out and going to the back. However, Roode later returned when Aries was in trouble, giving Chavo a spinebuster, and leading to the finish where Aries used a 450 splash off the top on to Chavo to score the pinfall. Big babyface crowd reaction for the title win.
Jesse Godderz came out on his own for a promo. James Storm came out and said his girlfriend stopped him superkicking him last week, but wouldn’t this week.
8) James Storm defeated Jesse Godderz. Total squash. Godderz had no offence and was treated like a joke by Storm, superkicking him for the win.
Next came the big Aces & Eights explanation interview, featuring D-Von, Garett Bischoff, Wes Brisco, D.O.C., Mike Knox, Mr Anderson, and one remaining masked member. Garett said he joined the Aces because he was tired of being disrespected. In a cool bit of storytelling, Bischoff brought up how he was treated at the London tv tapings last year, when Hogan was trying to put him over as a babyface, and the crowd crapped all over the segment, booing Garett. The Manchester crowd chanted ‘You Can’t Wrestle’ at both Garett & Brisco, which funnily enough is what they chanted at the London tapings last year (and was subsequently edited off the show in post-production). Brisco’s explanation for his actions was that he’d spent 2 years calling Hogan for an opportunity, without answer and that when Hogan replied, it was to give him a Gut Check challenge spot. Brisco asked Hogan to remember who gave him his first pair of wrestling boots all those years ago – his father the Hall of Famer, Gerald Brisco (actually saying the name, now that the lawsuit is over). D-Von closed by telling Angle not to hurry back, and that Hogan shouldn’t worry about more surprises to come. Well, there is one masked member left, plus the ‘higher power’. This was a good segment that drew a lot of heat.
9) Miss Tessmacher defeated Tara in a non-title match. Not much to it.
In a match taped for TNA X-Plosion (air date not announced):
10) Samoa Joe defeated Christopher Daniels. This was a good match, as you’d expect. Joe won after a uranage suplex, followed by the musclebuster. Joe was very over with the crowd, way more than you’d expect given his current tv role.
11) Main event of the show (and for February 7th) saw Sting & Bully Ray defeat D-Von & D.O.C. in a Tables Match. Ray came out wearing Sting face paint. Ray and Sting were super friendly with each other, especially Ray, to the point I was half suspecting a tease for a Ray turn, but nothing transpired. Sting & Ray did the Whats-up spot with Ray coming off the ropes on to D-Von. Both Sting & Ray did Stinger splashes in the corner on D-Von. Sting tried to suplex D.O.C. through a table, only for Mike Knox to run out and pull the table away. D-Von then accidentally punched Knox, knocking him out of the ring. D-Von got heat on Ray, leading to Ray doing a Hogan superman comeback, complete with the ‘You!’ finger pointing and no-selling punches. Ray gave D-Von a big boot, then chokeslammed D-Von through a table in the ring for the win. After the match. Hulk & Brooke came out to celebrate with Ray and Sting in the ring. End of taping.
Overall this was a very enjoyable show, lasting around 3 hours in length. Crowd were hot throughout.

Sounds like two good shows, which the hot crowd should help. It will be interesting to see if they push Magnus as a top babyface when they are not in the UK.

Plus, I love the dynamic of two reluctant heels teaming together who hate each other as much as the fans and face wrestlers do. The promos have all been entertaining with each of them trying to balance their cunning with each-others' ego. It's something fun and different that I believe will benefit everybody involved.

The amusing part of Aces and Eights to me is the notion that anyone major (or semi major) would want to join this jobber squad of doom. Seriously, Ken Anderson joined them with zero fanfare? Why? He's in a crappy stable with Devon, Mike Knox, Luke Gallows, etc. These guys had a bizarre aura when masked....now they're just goofs.
