allwrestling.com/news/48459/vince-having-surgery-news-jericho/- We noted before that The Rock trained with Michael McGillicutty to prepare for his Royal Rumble match. Rock is now supporting McGillicutty and he's always had Triple H backing him. No word yet on why he continues to be kept on the lower end of the roster. There's been a big push to get rid of his name and call him Joe Hennig but WWE officials are so against real names these days because they want to full own everyone's ring name.

Why not just give the wrestlers some sort of moniker that WWE can trademark? Let him be called "Something Something" Joe Hennig. If he leaves, he can't be "Something Something" anymore, he'll have to be "Something Else" Joe Hennig.

I suspect it's not just about them being able to use the name but also about them being able to keep the wrestlers from using the name in other promotions. Like, TNA isn't a threat, but if say they started getting WWE guys with their full names and stuff, there would be a chance in hell they could do it. Like even a "Something something" prefix wouldn't distract people from their actual name enough, probably. And Vince is all about no chance in hell. |

How many members of the audience at-large even remembers that he's Mr. Perfect's son? How many members of the audience at large even remember Mr. Perfect?

I bet they'd be shitting their pants if Orton was fired, since he owns his real name and can use that in TNA of wherever if he wanted. That's a coup.
But as for McGillicutty, just call him Joey or Joe Perfect and be done with it. Boom, you recognize his lineage while still being able to own his name. And if he becomes over and makes a lot of money but he does something stupid and gets canned, he can only go by Joe Hennig. It's that simple.

Why not just call him Mike Perfect?
They can trademark the name, it plays up the son of Mr Perfect thing and he keeps the Mike/Michael name for continuity.

If it'd work for ownership purposes, mess with the spelling of his last name on purpose. A lot screw it up anyway. Change his first name to Chance (just off the top of my head because its different) and use the Henning spelling.

I really hope they don't screw Richie Steamboat around with this issue. I can understand Bo Rotunda becoming Bo Dallas, but when you have Steamboat Sr. as an employee of your company, why would you make that change?
I say Joe Hennig is fine as there aren't any other Joes, and with enough time, Joe could possibly be one of the guys that could actually follow in their father's footsteps. Curt wasn't an overnight success either and he had a well known father in professional wrestling when he was coming up.
