I trust the writers enough that all of the mane cast will get a chance to shine in Season 4.

While it will put Twilight on a higher plane, I highly doubt it will become "The Twilight Sparkle Show gueststarring 5 other ponies". If anything I firmly believe it could end up becoming "The Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie Show featuring Twilight Sparkle" if her "Princess duties" actually keep her offscreen. In fact, it feels like her role in the show has been deminishing for a little while now...

Kinda like The Rock, she will only appear during important episodes now, like the two-parters.

But they don't have television in Equestria. But they have that crystal ball thingy that Chrysalis uses in the comic to use for that.

Actually, showing very little of Alicorn Twilight in season 4 might be the best course of action, IMO.

Especially since Rarity is now first to have her focus episode next season. But I admit, I would miss my little egghead a bit.

Honestly, diminishing Twilight Sparkle's role to that extent would be no better than pushing her as the undisputed main character on the show above the others in the Mane 6.
Keeping it as is, where she always has been kind of the main character anyway but it's not so obvious because the others get a lot of focus too, would be the best course of action.

Except now she's a freaking Alicorn, dude! Kind of makes it GLARINGLY obvious who the main character is if they keep Twilight's screen time on par with what she's always had. They have to counteract that somehow to keep the illusion alive and the only way to do that is decrease her screen time and put more focus on the others.

Perhaps they will write it that way that Twilight still has to study to stabilize her alicorn powers since she cannot keep that state for long.
So most of the time, we will see her as we know her already and she will only go into her alicorn form in the two-parters.

Man, this is a hard one to balance... I don't envy being a writer here.
Trying to figure out a wrestling analogy that could fit here... We'll just use the example of John Cena. He's the face of the franchise. Others around him do get noticeably pushed (CM Punk, Sheamus, Ryback, etc), but not to Cena's level, thus there is the perception that if Cena is taken out of that top position or demoted to a lesser role, others will get pushed to that level in his absence.
Would this hypothetical apply to Twilight Sparkle?

Right from episode one we know she's the main character. Pages all over the internet always state that's it, "Twilight Sparkle and her five pony friends!" or something along those lines. Everyone (or most) realize it.

I don't know if a wrestling analogy works here, because MLP doesn't have anything comparable to the championship titles that supposedly define these roles. At the very least, Rainbow Dash won't be defeating Twilight for her alicorn powers any time soon.

Well, Rainbow would fight Twilight if my "Dark Twilight" idea would make it to air.

Oh, for the days when the hottest button issue was that Rainbow Dash was getting pushed too hard because her Sonic Rainboom led to the other 5 (including Twilight Sparkle) finding their destinies that got them their cutie marks...
But like I said, this is a damn hard thing to balance. Do they keep everyone in the Mane 6 as equal as possible and work around the perception that Twilight Sparkle is above them all because of her alicorn status (like Koda said)? Or do they actively depush Twilight Sparkle to a lesser role in the show to lessen that perception, but ACTUALLY eliminate the equality of the Mane 6?
It's making for great debate, though. It's only gotten heated a few times.

I still like the idea how my Season 4 opener episode from a few pages ago would end with Twilight getting time from Celestia until she is ready to assume her princess duty and until that time comes her alicorn status is removed so that she can live as a normal unicorn until then.
