He hit the kid in the back and killed him? Did they mean the back of the head or did a hit to the back end up triggering something that led to the kid's death? I need more details.

On the other hand, if you're the bully's parents, you got to think: "if I raised as kid that wasn't such a piece of shit, he'd still be alive." I mean, it wasn't a deliberate killing. The other kid just finally fought back after being tormented, and this was the end result. What can the bully's parents really say? It was avoidable.

He had to have really hit a bad spot, yeah, or had some unstated condition that made his back more vulnerable than it should be. A punch to the back from a 13 year old really shouldn't be lethal.

Pretty much this but I don't think the kid should be seriously punished. It's not like he intended to kill the other kid. Well, that was part of my point. The kid presumably just wanted to get the bully off his back and now he's gonna have to live with this for the rest of his life. So I got that buddy, just clearing it up so we don't have any confusion. I wasn't bullied in high school but I saw way too much going on with no reaction from those in charge, it's sad that no matter where kids are in the world they still have to deal with these situations without some kind of adult input. It should've never gotten to a point where this had to happen.

That's a serious drag, though. Hopefully that kid doesn't beat himself up over that for the rest of his life, as chances are he wasn't intending to actually kill the dude.

The other kid just finally fought back after being tormented, and this was the end result. What can the bully's parents really say? It was avoidable. This. If things got to the point where the kid felt he had to fight back, then surely the parents of this bully should've known what their kid was doing. Don't get me wrong, it's horrible that this kid died and I hope that the other kid gets whatever help he may need, but this kid didn't have to bully.

Man that must've been a perfect shot to either the liver or the kidney. What an unfortunate situation for all parties involved, hopefully the kid that threw the fatal blow is only charged with manslaughter because that doesn't sound like he had intent to kill.

Hopefully the kid isn't charged with anything. It was a completely avoidable accident, and none of the blame, IMHO, falls on the kid.

there were plenty of kids in my high school whose outcome should have been the same. Yes, murdering another child is always a good answer to bullying. And I'm sure the other kid will feel fantastic knowing he committed murder and destroyed a family before he was old enough to drive. I really don't get this kind of attitude. It was accidental; I'm fine with it being accidental.

This isn't a drunk driver who could've avoided killing somebody, this is a kid who through freak accident took another life. Hell, it's not even as if he shot the kid or tried to stab him - he punched his back. I know if I was a judge, I'd have a really hard time charging him. The soul-crushing guilt that he'll feel is punishment enough, IMO.

I think you can admit that you could have worded it better. it wasn't explicit that you were speaking for yourself only; it seemed as though you were trying to tell me what is appropriate in that situation -- " you don't forgive their actions, you mourn the loss". en.wiktionary.org/wiki/youYou: (indefinite personal pronoun) Anyone, one; an unspecified individual or group of individuals (as subject or object). [from 16th c.] clever. you do know that I would be included, right? especially given that the post was directed at me?
