As mentioned before, it's kind of hard to discuss the reason behind this with out going into politics.

Never get anything but junk and bills in the mail and the post office is only open from 9-10a on Saturdays out here so this won't make much of a dent in my life. Like to see them get this figured out but as has been said, there are reason it will never happen.

It really sucks that the people who NEED this info are the last to find out. I do know that they've been offering early retirement to people aproaching retirement age. My dad's retiring early, but only because of the vacation/sick days he hasn't used. Think its something like six months early for him. He started a week before I was born (I was the first born), & they almost fired him. I went back in the hospital two days after initially leaving, & my dad told them he needed a day or two off. They told him to leave his personal problems at home! Imagine the outrage if something like that happened now! USPS is so screwed up, I asked my dad about getting a job years ago, & he told me he'd kick my ass if I did! He hates it there, & can't wait to get out! No idea why I ever went with, but when I was a kid I remember going to NALC meetings with him. That's actually very interesting because my mother started when she was pregnant with me (25 years ago) and I remember going in the Post Office when I was a kid and sorting the mail for her routes. They offered her early retirement too but she turned it down after having to use lots of her sick/vacation leave for her neck surgery. I begged for a job since freshman year at college and she said the only way she would help me was if I got a degree and applied to be a postal inspector. Of course now, they only hire for the crap work and only for a limited time at that... Jeez, he told me a postal inspector would be the only job he'd even consider, but even that would be iffy because of the sad state they're in. Crazy, small world!

I'm absolutely furious that I work for the f***ing Post Office and didn't find out about this until I saw it on the news this morning. That's not right!

I am ready to spit tacks. I am going to say some things that might need to be deleted, but since to me it isn't politics that is the cause but rather ethical violations I think it stays within the rules. This is due to a law that was designed to cause the USPS to fail, which is inconceivable since the USPS is the only federal service required in the Constitution. The military isn't. The CIA isn't. The Federal Reserve isn't. The IRS isn't.
Instead, the USPS is the only private or public entity that was required to pre-fund 75 years worth of pension plans over 10 years. That's right, they are required to already pay for the pension plan of employees whose PARENTS have not even been born yet. That is impossible, and that is the point. UPS and Fed-Ex have bought and paid for politicians in both parties in order to get this to happen. One might argue that is talking politics, but I say it is talking about bribery. UPS and Fed-Ex could not outcompete the USPS so they bribed enough politicians to do for them what they were incapable of doing themselves.
Mods: Feel free to edit this if my argument that talking about bribery of politicians isn't talking about politics doesn't cut the mustard.

They are supposed to pay $5 BILLION a year for 10 years, and have already missed payments. This is from September: www.suntimes.com/news/nation/15430470-418/story.htmlLike Dr. T said, if this is in violation of the politics rule, then feel free to delete.
