Anybody else remember what an absolute pop culture event this was? For an official debut album no less. It felt like the music world stopped and all eyes were on 50.
Did you cop the album then? How do you feel it holds up?

I had a bootleg copy from my friend's brother and it was titled "Get Richie or Die Fryin'".

I'm somebody who really doesn't know or care much of anything about rap so... Yeah, I probably didn't hear of it until some point down the line and even now I don't really know what's noteworthy about it.

I can't front, I wasn't really into 50 Cent/G-Unit at the time. But I can't deny how big they were, especially since I was in junior high at the time and my close friends were huge fans. People I talk to who loved the album back then cite it as one of their favorites that still holds up today.
So yeah, I definitely realized the impact it was making, but I still haven't listened to the whole album. Interestingly enough, I did pick up The Massacre when it came out and listened to it for a few weeks before I got tired of it. That might be why I never went back and listened to GRODT.

God I remember everyone in my high school listening to In Da Club at the time like it was the greatest song ever written.

Dude, you have no idea how miles better GRODT is than the Massacre. Imagine an album where every track is at least as good as "Ski Mask Way."

One of the last legit classic mainstream albums to ever come out....that even if it came out today would still hold up...
But damn hard to believe it's been so long....I remember when I stumbled on to Power of the Dollar all those years ago and he had me hooked for a while...
And also hate remembering how bad I wanted Lloyd Banks to blow.....the talent he had and what it amounted to is depressing...

A lot of people like to say that this was the unofficial end of Ja Rule's career but I'm not so sure about that honestly.
Not that long after that he had "New York" and "Clap Back" out. Now there's no doubt his career was never the same after he decided to step into s*** by getting into it with 50 and even worse, Eminem. However, he still had some decent tracks after GRODT.

The hype machine behind 50 was out of this world... and he was insanely popular for a pretty respectable amount of time. I actually found it sort of surprising how short his star really did shine, as he's been more or less a joke/cliche in the last half decade.

My God I remember 50 Cent was EVERYWHERE on the radio. Yet no one grew tired of him, we couldn't get enough of it. Then The Massacre came out...

It was also really nice to see the success he had after his first attempt to make it big landed him on an industry blacklist(Thanks to Irv Gotti) and the murder of Jam Master Jay.

I bought it on release day, and to this day it remains one of my favorite rap albums of all time.
It was all downhill from there...

"Damn homey, in high school you was the man homey!" Prophetic words . Yeah this was a good album though, Shady/Aftermath was really a powerhouse for a minute there.
