In an attempt to not look foolish when I go to Gamestop later to trade in a game system, I'm just wondering: Gamestop still gives cash for trade-ins, right?

Pretty sure they still do, though you need a driver's license. And you get less than you would with store credit.

I think they mail you a check that takes forever to get.

Tried to do this a few months ago, and they offered my $12 store credit for eight or nine games. When I asked for money, they offered me $7. I still have the games in the trunk of my car.

Which games were they? Depending on the system and the age.....they would be justified, because there are a crap load of older game that are really cheap used at GameStop and they need to make a profit on all used sales so the cheaper the game is in store used the less money they will offer on trade ins of that game.

I kind of like getting store credit. It takes some money off what I need to pay out of my pocket.

If you can...shop around for it. They only give 80% of the Store Credit Value if you want Cash. Depending on the console. The issue is that I'm Fairly sure that any of their deals (Such as the Extra $50 for Wii U/PS3/360) is ONLY if they're traded in for store Credit. The Following are the TRADE CREDIT Values for all current Gen Systems. {Spoiler}Xbox 360Xbox 360 S Console (slim) 320GB + Wireless Controller $80 Xbox 360 S Console (slim) 250GB + Wireless Controller $80 Xbox 360 S Console (slim) 4GB + Wireless Controller $80 Xbox 360 Console + Wireless Controller $45 Xbox 360 Console + Wired Controller $35 Kinect Sensor w/ AC Adapter $36 Kinect Sensor w/o AC Adapter $30 Xbox Live Vision Cam $1 Xbox 360 Memory Card 64MB $0.10 Xbox 360 Memory Card 256MB $0.30 Xbox 360 Memory Card 512MB $0.50
Playstation 3 PS3 Slim Console 320GB $75 PS3 Slim Console 250GB $75 PS3 Slim Console 160GB $75 PS3 Slim Console 120GB $70 PS3 Console 160GB $80 PS3 Console 80GB (4 USB ports) $70 PS3 Console 80GB (2 USB ports) $70 PS3 Console 60GB $70 PS3 Console 40GB (2 USB ports) $60 PS3 Console 20GB $60
Nintendo Wii U Wii U Deluxe Console 32GB Black $120 Wii U Basic Console 8GB White $80
Nintendo Wii Wii Console $18 Wii Remote $4 Wii Nunchuk $2.50
Yeah...... Seriously Just go to a Pawn Shop and Ask them, at the very least if you're questioning you can Pawn it and possibly get it back within 90 days.

A Wii is worth $18?? How much do they sell them for? Cheapest I've seen is $70, but when you consider that most of the Wii's library is shovelware... it sadly does make sense.

A Wii is worth $18?? How much do they sell them for? ......$90 My only thought is that they had a rush of Trade-ins when the Wii U released and the Used/Refurbished price hasn't been lowered accordingly yet. I'd try to console you with the extra $50 Tade Credit ...but it doesn't apply to Wii Consoles

Gamestop makes ridiculous amount of profit from their trade-in/used game program. It's pretty much why they can stay in business. They buy new consoles at the MSRP and make just about zilch in profit from their sales (and why employees can't use their discount for new systems, though they can for used ones and any game, new or used). And they barely make any profit from new game sales. It's why they push for pre-orders so much: they want you to ensure that you'll buy this new game off of them as quickly as possible. They don't want it there.

You need an ID in my state.
Also, your cash payment is only, I believe, 1/3rd what you would get in store credit.

As a former employee, I vouch for that. The working experience was terrible, but thankfully I had some of coolest coworkers, some of them even friends, to help make things less stressful. That's probably why I didn't last there very long. I was always told by the customers that I was very helpful and honest about their questions. At times I would recommend them a great game that was cheaper in price over the brand new, but lousy, $60 game. I wanted customers to be satisfied with their purchase so that they can come back, not sell them a terrible game because it costs more, thus leaving with a bad experience. But hey, that's corporate America for you.
