Looking back at some of this.....it almost looks like a time before internet fans became self aware of their own snarky-ness.

"goodhelmet Feb 16 2002, 01:17 AM Here's a thought. instead of rehashing old groups and gimmicks from the past, why doesn't the WWF do the creative thing and create new stables, new stars annd new storylines instead of rehashing the same old crap. I love HBK's work more than anyone but I saw his last match live when he was running TWA. Stay retired. (next post) Tony149 Feb 16 2002, 01:19 AM HBK can't take much, if any back bumps. Hell, what's next? The oWn?" (blackmansbeard hops in Delorean to reply to goodhelmet in 2002) I agree. He would take television time away from the young talent like Maven if he ever decided to return.

The first impression that I got from reading these, is that if I were on wrestling forums then, I would have crapped on the product in 2001-03 instead of liking it. That's startling when I think of how I view the show today.
But, I DO agree with this:
Will Scarlet

"I agree about the lack of midcard. The WWF seems to be caught in a trap where they believe that their only problem is they cannot find the right main event angle. They feel that the only reason why they had great rating way back when was solely because of Austin-Vince. They seem to forget about what else was going in the fed during that feud. You had stuff like the DX-Nation feud, the Brood, the three faces of Mick Foley, Ken Shamrock, Goldust doing whatever, the Val Venis-Kaientai feud, Al Snow and head, the various Undertaker-Kane feuds, and a bunch of other stuff that kept the entire show interesting, and, at the same time, kept the Austin-Vince feud from getting too stale or overexposed because it did not have to carry the whole show like Triple H, Austin, or whoever has to now. Sure they had crap like the Godwinns/DOA/whatever but their appearances were usually kept short, and they usually jobbed, so not much harm done.
The WWF seems to think now that nobody cares about anyone else on the roster that they are just watching to see HHH/Austin/Rock. They are now going with the NWO, which I am not quite sure will do for ratings, as they seem to be a mode where "Hey! People will order the PPV to see the NWO, so why waste time writing anything interesting?"
The WWF needs to find a way to fix the midcard, and make the show more solid and complete. They should then have a big show where a lot of people are going to be tuning in to see what is going on, then, bam, once they see that the show is actually good, maybe they will watch next week. One thing I hated about the Triple H return show was the fact that nothing really happened on it besides the Triple H return. The only other thing I can remember from it was Tazz and Spike winning the Tag titles. I felt the WWF should have used that show to start a bunch of new, interesting feuds, and perhaps putting a smaller return like Val Venis in there as well, sticking him something meaningful. Basically, just start anew with a bunch of new things going on so that the new fans tuning in to see HHH return can follow what is going on, instead of coming in with bland feuds that they really do not understand. I just hope the WWF fixes the midcard soon, or I may be stuck just watching Jakked and Heat for I can see Christian and the Hurricane, until the WWF fixes itself."
****************************************************
This pretty much began the time period of nostalgia/dream matches/special attractions. When ratings began to dip, Vince pulled out the desperation moves and has never looked back since.

Yeah, to be fair, it was pretty f***ing justified back in the day. She was EVERYWHERE from 2000-03 and much like Vince, her voice became more and more obnoxious after every week. I remember getting super pissed off when she was named as the Smackdown GM. Much like Vickie Guerrero, she constantly was in a power position and never got any long term comeuppance. Although Steph turned out to be okay in the role, which I guess pissed everyone off that she was actually tolerable so they removed her within a few months. We can't have Stephanie around for anything long term unless she's going to piss the fans off.

Never knew people hated Lita back then, and thought she was a poor worker.

Never knew people hated Lita back then, and thought she was a poor worker. She was definitely clumsy. I think a reason why I enjoyed her 2006 run (other than the fact that she was a sexy slutty heel) was the fact that she was more careful in the ring, outside of that one dive outside of the ring, where she almost rebroke her neck.

I think my first post when this was the Wrestlecrap forums was in 2003. Back when the RAW Thread went about 200 posts. And it was usually the nBo no-selling the whole program and fellow posters.

El Satanico is a better prophet that Nostradamus "See the problem is alot of people think adding an hour will magically get more guys on TV. When the reality would be that it just gives them more time to spend on the main events and forcing us to see talking...and more talking...and more talking. " Anyway, it's quite fascinating reading back on old threads and seeing that nothing has really changed in 10 years. Same complaints, same viewpoints etc. Great thread

What is thesmarkmark.com? was that where the board started then it ended up on wrestlecrap then here? Diddnt there there used to be one of the reviewers on Extreme warfare renevenge from thesmartkmark.com? Smart Marks grew out of a board run by Scott Keith (the aforementioned EWR reviewer) back in the late 90s, early 2000s. As its own board, it lasted a good 7/8 years, and now exists as another board called the Real TSM. I've been part of all three. God I've been talking about wrestling on the internet for too long.
