Not to open up a can of worms, but do you think they'd still have this record if they had to play anybody from the East this season? Chicago's a loaded team, for sure, but the change up of running into Boston or Montreal or New Jersey... would one of those teams been able to get the drop on them?

I think a few of the East teams would have a serious chance of giving Chicago its first regulation loss. Pittsburgh, Montreal, or Boston are at the top of that list. Toronto has a chance, too. The Blackhawks would probably wipe the floor with the Devils in their current state, though.

The Blackhawks would probably wipe the floor with the Devils in their current state, though. Pittsburgh would be unlikely due to their trend of taking early 2 goal leads, summarily blowing them, then completely going to pot in the second period only to have a "Too Little, Too Late" attempt at a comeback in the 3rd. They're losing a good number of games 5-4 or 6-4 because of that and their lousy PK (especially since Tanner Glass has a tendency of taking bad delay of game penalties when Pittsburgh's already on the PK)

The Rangers would be able to beat them if they took advantage of their top scorers. If Gaborik, Nash and Hagelin have a hard time, then no shot. Not even with a great D.

@kcarrera: NHLPA announces it has given its consent to realignment. @tsnbobmckenzie: NHLPA has signed off on NHL's proposed realignment. Don Fehr statement to follow: "After discussions with Executive Board, NHLPA has given consent to realignment, to be re-evaluated following 2014-15 season.”

RIP Blackhawks/Red Wings rivalry. But on the flip side, welcome back Red Wings/Maple Leafs rivalry.

Still don't like this new alignment at all. Especially on how the first round and second round matches will be the same every year. I enjoy the random playoff matches you could get which in turn can create new rivalries in the game. I'm not sure if Vancouver and Chicago are in the same division since I haven't checked in a while but if they aren't the league wouldn't have the epic Chicago vs. Vancouver rivalry for example.
Also I'm surprised they did this considering Chicago is now the only original six team in the West. I bet most Americans who are fans of the Western conference can't wait for Chicago home games being the lone representive of National televised games.

But with Detroit out of the West for at least 2 years, that gives the rest of the conference some brief hope.

Anything short of a 5-0 lead is apparently not safe against the Penguins.
