Wesley Price. Joss has mentioned before that they considered replacing Giles with Wesley completely when it looked like Anthony might be leaving the project and WB wanted a "younger, better looking Watcher". The fans, while some liked Wesley, quickly squashed that from ever happening. Even some that admitted they liked Wesley revolted when it was even teased that he might replace Giles. Thank god this never happened, Wesley in Angel is one of the best TV characters ever. Agreed, the move was a great one for his character. Otherwise he likely would've stayed the little toady he was.

![](http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyqLZ7Q3bfrTaLbj8H5RjiiFboJlVAmu4ozONFgAiR8R0qiysF) I think it KINDA fits. Also Phoenix Wright.Apollo was going to succeed....but did not work out. To be fair, that was less on Apollo succeeding him(which the fans were okay with because of how complete Phoenix's arc was) and more on the game's plot sucking/what they did to Phoenix. Is that why we got Miles Edgeworth's games?

I can't believe no one's brought up Barry Allen yet. No offense to Barry fans, but Wally was awesome in the mantle and the fact that Dumbass Comics thought it was a good idea to erase Wally from history itself via new 52 was nothing less than a slap to the face of any loyal fan who paid money for a Flash comic in the previous 25 years. agreed. at least with Hal there was a legitimate argument that he got a raw deal (that said Hal as he currently exists barely resembles the character before he went nuts anyway). with Barry, the guy went out in a way no character has ever equaled, and even the biggest Barry fans had long since grown to accept Wally as the proper bearer of the name. plus Barry's terminally boring compared to Wally and since they brought him back they did NOTHING to justify why he's somehow "the one for the job". he was a relic when they killed him off and he still feels like a relic with no discernable personality of his own. it just falls under the "waah things have developed and changed since I was a kid so lets reset everything to square one" type of thinking that's slowly choking the business to death. the only people this move was made to please was a bunch of pathetic old men who run the company and not the fans.

Is that why we got Miles Edgeworth's games? They never really confirmed it either way, but it's pretty strongly implied that was the case. The spoiler comments on PW5 info and the Edgeworth games, just in case people don't want to read that. {Spoiler}They went out of their way to shoehorn the Edgeworth game between PW3 and Apollo Justice. Phoenix doesn't appear in the Edgeworth games at all, so the only reason they did this was to avoid acknowledging those games existed/make a statement about the timeline. If the game was set a bit later they'd have to acknowledge how the game left a bitter taste in the fan's mouths.
PW5 seems to be about returning Phoenix to where he was before Apollo Justice destroyed his character, kind of like they are trying to get everything out of their way to fix the timeline.

And here's the thing; Barry went out like a boss in one of the greatest moments in comic book history. It's one thing when a characters death is botched and they bring him back but his death was fantastic.

here's a funny inversion; Carol Danvers (Ms./Captain Marvel) is probably WAY better known these days than the original Captain Marvel is. she went from being Marvel's ripoff of Mary Marvel to being Marvel's Wonder Woman, while Mar-Vell is usually only remembered for dieing in a fairly well written story.

Wasn't Marv Wolfman reluctant to kill off Barry in Crisis, and stated that he left a back door open in case someone wants to bring him back?

he did, but the idea of a sidekick replacing their mentor was new and fresh at the time and people gravitated to Wally in a way that hasn't really happened before or since.

Steve Rogers as Captain America over Bucky I am pretty positive that this was never meant to be long term, especially since the Captain America movie and the Avengers movie weren't out yet and you would figure Marvel would want the Captain America in the movie be the Captain America in the books. And hell, Bucky as Cap was popular with fans, to a point where people actually weren't happy when Steve Rogers inevitably returned to life and wanted Bucky to continue being Captain America.

I'll forever treasure this thread for containing the most substantial discussion of BGC 2040 in my time here.
