Police said a 2-month-old baby in Marion County had to be treated after drinking bleach given to her by her father.
Florida police arrested Carron Washington after they said he confessed Sunday to pouring bleach into his infant daughter's baby bottle and feeding it to her.
Investigators said Washington, 20, told them he thought the bleach would help with the child's congestion problems.
“This will probably be the dumbest decision I’ve ever made in my life. I regret it 110 percent,” Washington told News 13 Monday.
Washington has been charged with aggravated child abuse. He was booked Sunday into the Marion County Jail without bond.
Washington says the child suffers from esophageal problems. Washington, who said he is studying to be a doctor, asked a friend from school, who recommended the bleach because she had used it before. Washington says it was done out of love.
“I mean, if I can love anyone as much as God loves us…that’s pretty much how much I love her,” Washington said.
The child's condition is not known.
Washington said he called News 13 after seeing his name in the paper so he could set the record straight. Someone from the public defender's office stopped the interview.
