With the previews for PlayStation 4 coming out, and no doubt thousands of dollars about to be shelled out by one individual person, I was reminded of this by one of the discussions I had in school today:
I'm the only person that prefers the PlayStation 3 over the X-Box 360 in my school, at least the people that I've talked to.
I like it because of the graphics. I understand that better graphics don't make a better game, but there's something about the graphics that makes it seem more addicting and larger then life. I had to make the switch over to the PS3 with the WWE Video Game Series no longer being offered on the PS2 with the fading off of the PS2, and I've loved it ever since.
I can kinda understand though why they prefer the X-Box, there's X-Box Live for your standard battle games, you can talk to other people as your playing, and with the Kinect being ''the thing'' in video games last year, it's popularity with the age demographic (15-16 year olds) is understandable.
For the gamers that are a part of this board, I don't know if you can compare or you just prefer one system over the other specifically, but what do you think in the age old battle of Blue vs Green?

360 simply because I didn't and don't know anyone who JUST has a PS3. Most people I know who bought a PS3 did it for the Blu Ray player. If I ever want to play online multiplayer with friends, it's always going to be on the 360. The fact that online is free from Sony means nothing if no one's around to use it with me.

PS3. 360 peaked in 2008. PS3's peak didn't start until 2009, and it is still in its peak.
360 had a brief revival peak in 2010, but other than that it has been all PS3 for me.
Mainly because Microsoft has been DRASTICALLY reducing their focus on 360 exclusives. Sony however has been ramping it up.
Oh, doesn't hurt that the PS3 has been the system between the two getting the JRPG love. 360 had a lot of JRPGs early on, but now it has slowed to a trickle on the system.
So yeah, for the first 3 years of the generation, from 05-08 the 360 was EASILY the king, but from 09 till now it has been the PS3.

PS3, and I say that as someone who doesn't actually own one.

Their libraries are mostly the same, but the PS3 has a bigger, better and more varied lineup of exclusives. Multiplatform games often run better on the 360, but graphically they always seemed pretty much indistinguishable to me.
If I were to make a recommendation to someone looking to buy a new system, I'd say PS3.

I unfortunately never had either (have a Wii though) so my experiences with both are limited to playing over friends, most have X-Boxs but I prefer PS3 because a PS2 was my first console so after Nintendo, Sony is my favorite game company.

Maybe bias playing here, but I worked for Sony (Pre-PS3 launch up until Uncharted 2), and saw no real reason to get a 360. The only game I would have considered getting a 360 for was Gears of War. But then Uncharted 2 multiplayer blew that out of the water, easily, in my eyes.

I only have a PS3 but the 360 always seemed better to me. Better dashboard, better online, they get DLC way earlier, the games on both systems run better on the 360.
The PS3 has amazing exclusives, though.

The PS3 has amazing exclusives, though. Eh I'll take the exclusive DLC/content multiplatform games on the PS3 have been getting the last several years over just getting to get DLC earlier. ESPECIALLY since MS has been using their multiple early DLC access deals as a piss poor replacement for creating new first party exclusives.

PS3 seems like it's still mainly about video games, so I'll vote that even though I don't have one. Microsoft isn't about video games anymore, they're all about "virtual entertainment".

PS3, I sold my 360 after I bought a PS3. Free to play online, and if you want a larger hard drive, you don't have to buy Microsoft's over priced one.

I couldn't pick "neither", so I went with PS3. I came to that decision because it's at least a blu-ray player and I've 'only' had to send it in for repair once (though the way the fan sounds, that may change soon). With the 360, I've red-ringed twice.
Another option not given is Nintendo, which is my choice of the three. I can at least rest easy when I get one of their products and not have to worry about it going out at any time.

Once they hit the same price point, I don't see how anyone could possible say the 360.
The only thing my 360 has going for it is that the Bethesda games run better on it and I already own the Mass Effect games on it so there is no reason to buy them on the PS3.

PS3. I own more games for it, the online is free, the downloadable content is IMO much better and its Netflix services are way better than Microsofts (or so i'm told).
