Yes, I know this is a bit hypocritical considering I've posted in them (and that was mostly due to me moderating them), but I just realized it's possibly my absolute least favorite thread type anywhere. Not only do they get unnecessarily heated 75% of the time, but the vast majority of opinions expressed aren't even all that unpopular. It just feels like we're patting ourselves on the back for weak attempts at being controversial.
I'm not trying to enforce or dictate anything, but that's how I feel about them. If I never saw another one again it would be far too soon.

I prefer those over the "It's my birthday, give me some attention!" threads.

I hate them, for slightly different reasons, I just hate seeing things I love trashed - especially on here. I get enough stick in the real world for liking wrestling so I tend to just avoid the 'Unpopular Opinions' threads because I know I'll just get angry at people hating on something I really like.

All they do is add more bitching and negativity to the boards which is why I hardly read them anymore.

They are 10 times more substantial than all the "random" threads (which have thankfully calmed down as of late) which are predicated 9 times out of 10 on a comment that's really dumb. Now, those I hate. Friday threads accomplish the same thing, but they are at least only once a week versus the random threads (which also usually have ridiculously sensationalistic titles that make me end up passing my cursor over the thread anyway -- feels like semi-Rick Rolling).
At least the opinion threads are good reading material because you get to consider another perspective, and sometimes you will run across something that has genuine merit to it and is interesting. They aren't nearly as self-high-fivey as the average post-WWE PPV thread where everyone is taking turns vomiting on what they just saw.

I was afraid this will become a trend on this board. Sadly, I was right.

All they do is add more bitching and negativity to the boards which is why I hardly read them anymore. I'd rather have a thread where discussion happens over a "bad news" thread, where 90% of the responses are directed at the OP who posted it. I mean how many times can that be unfunny? Also, I wish there was a limit on how many obnoxious threads someone can make in a day. It seems like there's 3 or 4 gimmick posters who crave the most needless forms of attention, so they create dozens of threads about stupid shit that doesn't even garner discussion, outside of how "insane they are" or something. Certainly, I almost always ignore these threads, but it gets really annoying searching pages back for a topic because all the "I just did something stupid" threads bumped it back.

I don't mind them myself. if nothing else the wrestling ones put paid to the idea that everyone who talks about wrestling on the internet likes the same things.
it also gives us all a place to vent a bit.
but I can understand people not liking them.

If I never saw another one again it would be far too soon. So... you want them to stick around, then? I like 'em, it helps share opinions and I sometimes see people make points I hadn't thought about regarding works I love/hate. Even when I disagree with others, I always find them interesting.

This is true. I personally find it really interesting to read opinions different from my own. I mean, just because I don't agree doesn't mean there isn't merit to them or they don't have something to say. There's a big story floating around online about punk rock is terrible or the worst genre ever or something, and I love punk. Can't wait to read that.

I don't mind the news threads because they do invoke some good discussion after you weed out all the "reaction to the OP" posts, but I 100% agree with you on the "random wacky" threads. Those threads I just skip completely.

People seem to like those threads, so I don't know if the opinion expressed here is going to be very popular.

I was the person who started them here! Although back then they were more of a "spill your guts, what do you like" thing, so people could say things like "I thought the Invasion was actually ok".

But I can readily admit that punk has its share of awful musicians, maybe more than most genres. But it is part of the charm for a lot of bands.

I hate it when someone posts pretty much the exact same news story for a week. Like last week or two weeks ago there was five separate stories about kids getting suspended from school because they made a gun gesture with their hands, a chicken nugget looked like a gun, army men on cupcakes, throwing invisible hand grenades, and making a stabbing gesture. All in a span of seven days. Every reply was the exact same thing like how can kids be kids, stupid PC, I should of got suspended back on my day, world is falling apart. Rabble rabble rabble
At least something random was different
