Outside of The Pirates: Band of Misfits, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted and Ice Age: Continental Drift I've seen all the other big name feature films released last year and I have to say I enjoyed Rise of the Guardians far more than any of the others. Did anyone else see it?

Yes.......yes it did, and was no way near deserving of the Oscar. How the hell did it even win the Oscar anyways when WIR kicked its ass in all the award shows leading up to the Oscars, including sweeping the main award show for animation in cinema?

Brave was a good movie, they just forgot the whole middle part. All of the actually story and "learning a valuable less" stuff was done way to quick after tons of early character development, they just change with very little reason why.
It was inverse Spider-man 3.

It won the Oscar because Pixar. And it wasn't a Cars movie. I thought it was Pixar's weakest non-Cars movie since A Bug's Life. This was also the first year I remember Animated Feature having 5 movies in a long time, so that probably helped Brave out, too.

WIR won so many awards, including those voted on by those in the animation industry, against pretty much the same opponents it faced for the Oscar. So what, is the Best Animated Feature also voted on by everyone who can vote, like Best Picture is? That has to be the only thing I can think of.

why does everyone hate Brave? i thought it was awesome! I thought it was good, but with as much as they hyped it up it was a bit of a let down. And yeah... main character was a little hard to get behind

I'd personaly put them as equals, rather than one being superior to the other.
"Rise" is an Adapted story (But an odd case as the books were evidently written for the express purpose of eventual adaptation into film)
Wreck-It Ralph is a fun, original story that proves Disney doesn't "Need" Pixar to do Computer Animation.
That said....I know why Brave won the Oscar over it, and I think it's slightly more than "It's Pixar" (Though I DO agree that was part of it). By and large, the Film INDUSTRY seems to hate Video Games as an artistic Medium. Awarding an Oscar would seemingly undermine that position.
Back on topic, I enjoyed both films for very different reasons. Rise, I thought was a decent "Popcorn" film, with some wonderful visuals and something I'd like to see become a franchise (Another Movie would be good......but honestly a TV series would fit well too)
W-IR Was a good film technically, and was good enough all around that I actually went to see it TWICE theatrically. I do feel it deserved the Oscar over "Brave" if we're simply comparing the two films (Though if expanded to all the nominees, I think ParaNorman would edge it out, with "Pirates!" rounding out my top 3 choices). But "Brave" did do some things on the Technical side that I could see promoting it (Hair modelling being a biggie) but that should equate to more Industry Awards....which it did not.

ParaNorman is the best animated movie of 2012 IMO. Yes. Yes it is. Good story, good characters, gave us the line "OWW My Boob!". But on topic, I haven't seen Rise of the Guardians but I loved Wreck-It Ralph.

I like both about equally.
But Brave was borderline bad. Felt like a 22 minute episode from a random cartoon that was stretched to a full length movie.

ParaNorman is the best animated movie of 2012 IMO. I agree, and the others weren't bad. I've read interviews where voting members of the academy voted for Paper Man and Brave just because they either "heard good things" or those were the only ones they knew anything about. I'll always believe that Brave won just because the ballot said "Pixar."

Guardians was an ok plot but was very ugly to look at, it felt cheap compared to the others.
