The Lord of the Rings trilogy was only about 70% accurate to the books but were fantastic films. I love the books, but if they were adapted faithfully they would make tedious viewing. Is this with or without all the deleted scenes? Some close adaptations alienate anyone who hasn't read all the source material: Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows. What were the complaints about here? I don't know exact complaints, but I will say for some of the Harry Potter movies they kept out a lot from the books that would have made more sense. With the Half-Blood Prince, a huge part of the book is learning about Voldemort's past and the Horcruxes and they didn't do that well. With the Deathly Hollows, again, a huge part of the first book is learning about Sirius's brother (in fact, the movies really downplayed Kreacher), and the other big things were learning about Dumbledore's past and how very few wizards had heard about the Deathly Hollows. I enjoyed both Deathly Hollow movies, but if you didn't read the books, there were a lot of things that really made no sense.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

if it's a Mark Millar special, it's a good idea to take what works and toss out all the rape, cruelty to animals and gallivanting misogyny.

When it comes to comic book movies, Green Lantern was very faithful to its original source. to its detriment. the film was so slavishly dedicated to re-creating Geoff Johns' run on the books it didn't realize that it only works if you built the foundation first. you can't throw the Sinestro Corps or Parallax out there right out of the gate before Hal's origin story is even finished.

I would put Forest Gump as another example of the movie being better than the book despite it being not a very good adaptation.
