Well so much for Sinclair abandoning ROH like earlier rumours suggested...

I was gonna make a thread asking these but seems kinda redundant when we're talking about the Elgin situation here. Ok my question to you guys, is Michael Elgin the worst champion in ROH history? I'd feel safer calling it the worst reign rather than calling him the worst champion, but even then I think the jury is still out. Because I still think this was the best way to go. I feel bad for Elgin for sure, but really by the time he won the belt I think fans for the most part wanted him to win it just to say he won it, I don't think many of us really wanted this to last too long, because the "right" time to do it had long since passed and there aren't a lot of real juicy matches for Elgin to keep it going strong. With Jay Briscoe winning it opens up a possibility to change Elgin up, whether by heel turn or just give him an added edge to make him more interesting, and Briscoe is more capable of deeper feuds I think. I just think two things of Elgin's reign. One being that there's nothing wrong with a short title reign here and there, sometimes it can seem pretty monotonous with ROH in that when someone new wins the title, we just expect it to last a year, it happens in MMA too, sometimes guys we think are real players get exposed as champions. Secondly I don't think the book is entirely written on the reign until we know how he ends up afterwards. Even though Elgin lost out of nowhere there's still a fairly consistent story behind it, the fact that Elgin's almost a notorious choke artist now, his character is going to have to confront the reality that he doesn't win a lot of big matches and do something different. He lost quite a bit of momentum since ROH went with Adam Cole over him when they were both at their hottest, I don't think he's gonna get it back by continually doing what he's doing so he's gonna have to change a little I think, and it could end up being for the better. So yeah, hard to say right now.

Yeah you make a good point, Elgin won it a year too late. I hope he bounces back and that his problem with roh management gets solved.

Yeah to this day I don't know anything about Xavier other than he was roh champ... Xavier was a midcard babyface in a rivalry with Scoot Andrews for the first half of 2002, then turned heel and joined The Prophecy when he beat Low Ki for the title. problem then was he was still booked as a midcarder. During his entire run as champion he was only in the main event three times, two tag matches and then him dropping the title to Joe. he then took several months off from ROH to heel up, coming back still a heel but no longer a member of The Prophecy. he competed in the Field of Honor in late 2003 which led to a heated feud with John Walters. had a few matches in early 2004 and was the first member of The Embassy before disappearing from ROH. if they kept him a midcard babyface or booked him like a main eventer when he was champ (the title match at Final Battle 2002 being followed by a number one contenders match says it all) then he wouldn't be remembered as a joke I doubt it. His main problem was that his matches just weren't up to the expected standard of ROH main eventers (with the exception of the second match with London). Booking couldn't help him be a better wrestler.

I haven't seen it in a while but wasn't the whole point of the angle that Daniels screwed Low Ki out of the belt and put it on Xavier as a way for him to get the belt but then that somehow never even came up again?

I think I'm getting my dates wrong but wasn't it during the Feinstein incident? Where every TNA talent was banned from appearing at roh? Or was Joe champion at that point?

holy shit! How could I forgot that Joe held the title for almost 2 years... its weird that a detail freak like Gabe never adressed the Christopher Daniels-Xavier deal.

Latest comments from Elgin on Facebook... Double Post Sorry, hadn't seen this. I really feel for him, nobody deserves to have their work compromised by outside factors beyond his control. I hope his situation gets resolved soon, like right now. That being said, I find it interesting that he's still mentioning the baseball comment, like almost acknowledging that roh got pissed at that.

ALL OF THE YES! I absolutely LOVE the match they had in Hell Freezes Over way back in 2006, and think it is one of the most underrated matches in ROH history! Sydals selling is perfect for AJs moveset, and vice versa. So damn happy about this

Glad to find out that ROH is coming to Atlanta TV via the WATL MyNetworkTV station. It comes on at 2:00am which is a bad time, but that's what the DVR is for.

they teamed up for five tag matches in ROH:
- vs. The Embassy at Showdown in Motown - vs. Aries & Strong for the tag titles at the Fourth Anniversary Show - vs. Dragon Kid & Genki Horiguchi at Dragon Gate Challenge - vs. Aries & Jack Evans at Supercard of Honor - vs. the Briscoes at The 100th show
after that Styles had a couple more singles match before leaving ROH, while Sydal became known as the tag whore
