How popular is Austin's podcast? Why do I keep reading that Talk Is Jericho is the top downloaded podcast on iTunes each week? There's no way in hell his podcast is as popular as Austin's. Anyone have stats on this stuff?

Listened to the Piper episode today.
Very candid, given Pipers' habit of treating everything as a half-work.
Had some very... unflattering things to say about some old timers.
Billy Robinson is a pedophile, and Lou Albano along with Freddie Blassie were straight assholes who sabotaged his debut at MSG.

Anyone have stats on this stuff? Looking at the iTunes stats, Jericho's has been downloaded more in the head-to-heads, but I think that's more to do with him having some A+ guests in Austin and Edge, while Austin has had Jim Cornette and a couple of solo shows. Podcasts like theirs live and die on the strength of their guests, and Jericho's had the better ones lately.

And here I assumed Austin had some huge built-in audience now for his podcasts. But then, I guess that was stupid of me to assume since I don't listen to any of his podcasts if they aren't wrestling guests.

I listened to his first couple of non-wrestling episodes, and to be honest they bored me. Austin definitely has a built-in audience, but there's only so many times you can listen to the guy talk about hunting on his ranch before you lose interest (especially if you have no interest in hunting to begin with). It seems that there's a fair drop off in downloads for his non-wrestling episodes based on what I've been able to dig up, though I am only on my phone so the search isn't exhaustive. Jericho has the advantage of having a lot of contacts in the music industry, and has a wider fanbase than just wrestling fans, so long-term I would not be surprised if his podcast gains more listeners than Austin's.

Thanks a million for your insights. Am I the only one who thinks Jericho is a terrible interviewer? Obviously he's just starting out but Austin's first ones were better than Jericho's by far. Austin does a biography and Jericho just lets his subjects blab endlessly only to interrupt to either agree or promote himself. Which is totally fine, obviously, but I find Austin's interviews with wrestlers are top shelf over everyone's.

I agree that Jericho's interviewing style is a little too passive, but equally I feel Austin is a little too aggressive. He seems to have a set structure to his interviews that he likes to stick to, and doesn't hesitate to cut his guests off too early. To be honest, I think Colt outshines both of them as an interviewer. Almost all of his interviews have come across as very natural and he strikes the best balance between being structured and conversational. Jericho is too conversational, Austin is too structured. Colt's failing is 75% of his guests in the last 12 months have been completely uninteresting, and his reluctance to have repeat guests exacerbates that.

I still enjoy Steve's podcast very much, even when he doesn't have a guest at all. Jericho is getting even better at his. It's a good time to be a podcast fan.
I emailed Stone Cold last night with a question and he actually emailed me back at like 12:30am. Once I saw it - and after I finished hyperventilating - I immediately called my stepdad and marked out like a little kid. Steve is such a cool guy.

I enjoy SAS a lot more when it's just Steve talking on his own about random things. Every time he has a wrestler on it feels like they are reading through the wrestlers wiki page.
"So you started in this year?" "Then you moved there?" "Then you came to WWE?" etc
I wish he was more about 'random' topics with his guests so there's more of an insight about the guest than just learning the basic info and a couple side stories in the hour long show.
The only episode that showcased the guest in a different light was the Josh Barnett ep, but I feel that's more because Josh is an interesting guy who has many interests in life opposite to Random Wrestler X who lived in a "Eat Sleep Wrestle Repeat" bubble for 20 years.
Jericho's podcast has the same structure as SAS only the host has a different voice.
Atm I'm subscribed to both shows just to check for solo episodes.
That being said, I enjoyed the New Years Q&A a lot.

Second part of the Piper interview is up.
I hope he was just being polite to his guest when he said Piper and Hogan could pull off a good match at WM30.

Austin mentioned on Dave and Bryan's WO show that Jim Johnston was on his podcast, and the show would be up in a few days. I cannot wait for this.

New episode is up: WWE composer Jim Johnston!
"WWE composer Jim Johnston joins Steve to talk about some of their favorite entrance themes. Hear what inspired the themes for Stone Cold, The Undertaker, Bret Hart, D-Generation X, and Shawn Michaels"

Really interesting show. I've always enjoyed every interview Jim Johnston has done, this one was no exception.

Jim Johnston's interview was fantastic. I knew very little about the guy before this.

Really enjoyed the Jim Johnston ep. Hilarious how much Stone Cold loves HBK's music. I enjoy SAS a lot more when it's just Steve talking on his own about random things. That being said, I enjoyed the New Years Q&A a lot. I actually like Austin's interview style. Yeah he gets through nuts and bolts of dates and basic history but you can always feel how passionate he is for wrestling when he starts talking about promos and psychology and how much he loves tag team wrestling etc. I do also enjoy it when he's just talking crazy stuff about his life or trying to make Ted Fowler laugh or just ranting though.

I haven't listened to it yet, but I think it would be cool if Austin would have had Jim perform some of his compositions live in the studio.
