Listening to this for the first time (interviewing Christopher Daniels) and wow this is really engrossing. I hate to say it because I love Colt Cabana but I kind of fell out of the podcast for a time and I think a lot of it is because something like Steve Austin's more like what I'm looking for (or the Daniels ep. at least, don't know if they're all like this) where he's prodding and really going deep about the craft of wrestling more than just having a general conversation. No, Austin really does go pretty deep into the craft with just about every wrestling guest he has, and on a couple of his solo shows too. The episodes with Dusty, Regal, Zeb, Cornette, Heyman, Hayes, and Bischoff are all fascinating for people who love to hear in-depth wrestling talk.

Awesome. I look forward to hearing from Russo. The past few guests haven't been that great. I feel the opposite. It was a nice change of pace to not hear someone who was on Ross's podcast last week and Jericho's podcast the week after. Steve honestly cares about the people he has on, whether it's from his days as a paying fan or his days in the ring. That's what makes his shows interesting and insightful. The average fan may not give two hoots about Tommy Rogers, but Steve remembers when the Fantastics were a pretty huge tag-team he paid money to see and wants to touch base with him. You may not care for Justin Credible, or already heard him on Colt's podcast. But the compassion Steve shows to a guy Austin himself credits as making him into the Stone Cold character, that's terrific.

Yeah Stone Cold loves going in depth with his discussion. He always asks about psychology. Loves talking about heel/face dynamics. Promos. The art of tag teams. Developing characters and great advice for people wrestling now about getting over and working crowds and whatnot. It's usually a great show when he's talking to someone who shares his passion.

CD was a fantastic interview. Hard to believe these guys are only about 5 years apart in age.

I've followed Christopher Daniels since he started in Windy City (SportsChannel Chicago represent, y0) with the wild "early Rick Steiner when he was a team with Scott" singlets (half one solid color, the other half some weird pattern), so I was a little disappointed he didn't really get into it really deep there, but I understand that he's had one heck of a career and there's only so much you can talk about.
Then moved onto Russo. Once you filter past the fact he doesn't know names and dates (Vince, if you ever want to collaborate on a book and need help with those, call me) and some other BS, it was an informative listen. The time flew right by.

Oh, yeah, I remember reading that Cena is a GIANT Fist of the North Star fan. Cena's a good egg.

Goddamn Russo's constant banging of fists on his desk to emphasise points is irritating.

I don't think I have the stomach to hear Steve Austin talk to Russo like an equal.

I really enjoyed Russo pt2. I never know how much of Russo I should believe, but he comes across as quite a sympathetic babyface. To be honest, I haven't really heard his side of the story on a lot of the topics they covered in this podcast. The stories about Owen were particularly noteworthy. I would put this Austin/Russo podcast on any must-listen wrestling list. I can't wait for the eventual part 3 covering WCW.

The main thing I'm thinking about with regards to the second Russo ep, he states that it was basically a last-minute decision to put Owen in the stunt that killed him when the company behind Sting's rappelling stunts offered their services a few days before the PPV, and that the day he died was the only time Owen was ever up in the rafters for an entrance.
In everything I've ever read on Owen's death (including reports from The wrongful death lawsuit) it says he'd performed the stunt at a handful of shows before the PPV.
So which is it?

I'm not sure how much wrestling stuff I believe from Russo (I agree with a lot, disagree with the same amount, fact checking also means I worry) but when discussing things he's a huge fan of he is so excitable he's fun to listen to.
I think what I've learned from all the podcasts I listen to is that more often than not I don't think people are intentionally lying about the past, they're just talking on decade old subjects from a very busy life and their own perspective/memories make them say things which may not be 100% true.
I used to roll my eyes at Russo and TONS of guys -including people like Bret who I am a HUGE mark for- who seemed to be lying about stuff which wouldn't even make themselves look better, but now I'm pretty sure most of 'em aren't marks for themselves as much as they're people who've not cared to remember every detail of their lives specifically for conversation. We as fans are interested in moments in wrestling so we remember things better than wrestlers a lot of the time. Same as musicians reflecting on what's on studio versions of their songs and remembering demos or live performances etc.
Like I've accidentally told half truths about my teenage years with friends who've corrected me/wondered if I was remembering a different occurence, I thought I was 100% right but then realized 'huh...maybe not.'

He said they'd had a few little interactions but they wanted it to lead to a full blown thing and Austin just flat out refused to do it. I have no recollection of the time but does anyone remember him and Jarrett crossing paths briefly?

Today's "Family Friendly" show talked about a woman smuggling heroin into prison via her vagina, tribal semen drinking rituals and how horny Stone Cold is all the time. First time listening that I genuinely didn't know whether to shit or wind my watch.

I heard on a past podcast that both Vince and undertaker were interested in being guests, hope that really happens.
