Current, talented wrestlers who, at one point, saw their stocks going up and it was looking like they'd be big time in no time. Yet, they're still in the upper-lower-midcard area today. Wrestlers you're still fans of and still hope and think they can make it to the top one day. For me it's:
Matt Morgan Kofi Kingston Mr. Anderson

I used to say Ultramantis Black, but he's like 36 now, and doubt even TNA will come calling for him.
Nobody in WWE comes to mind, because even if they are midcard, they are still in WWE. To answer in spirit of the question, I'll go with Tetsuya Naito in New Japan. I still believe he will be IWGP champion at some point.

He's in my top ten in the Indy 75, and there is a definitive bit of bias here, but Shaun Ricker. Why the guy isn't in TNA or WWE is a complete mystery to me.

Amazing red and other X division guys. Agree with Mr Anderson, but his time has come and gone.

Elijah Burke. Has so much to offer and is utilised so poorly.

Elijah Burke. Has so much to offer and is utilised so poorly. I want to like him so much, but he's never connected with me. Especially after hearing him in out of character interviews and such. I jus don't like the guy. I think some would say I feel about Burke/pope that most feel about kennedy/Anderson.

Free Agents?
John Morrison is one. He was getting a big push hear the end of his WWE run but he screams WWE or TNA Champion to me. Looks good and can work. Needs a bit of help on the microphone but that can be fixed with a girl like Melina who can work the mic.
Chris Masters as someone said above. I don't think WWE will give him a run but I think he could definitely become a main eventer in TNA. Don't think he'd win the belt but could see him as a heel challenging a baby face and getting a nice run from that.
I culd see MVP having a run at the top of TNA now that he has left NJPW. He's getting up there in age but I could see TNA giving him a main event push.

Chuck Taylor. He's just too damn talented not to get looked at by one of the big companies eventually.

Tetsuya Naito - I definitely see the next Mutoh in him. If he and Okada or Tanahashi end up in the G1 finals this year, he should get the win and then head into Wrestle Kingdom 8 to defeat Okada.

Daniel Bryan. Enough with the comedy tag team. Let the man have the world title reign he deserves!

MVP: One of the first heels I loved to hate. I believe he can be successful
Masters, Burke, Morrison as others said. I also still think Matt Hardy now that he seems to have cleaned up a bit might have one more run in WWE

Great calls with Burke and Anderson. I think Anderson's work in Aces and Eights in getting the entire world to revile him is great.
I'm still rooting for them to do something with Ryder and Riley (not together, despite how catchy that sounds). They connect so well with audiences that just to see the WWE cater to that would be a positive sign.
I've seen Chris Masters wrestle live recently, and he's legitimately better than he's ever been while still looking physically impressive.
I'd love to see Matt Hardy get himself together. His heeling it up in front of a New York crowd at ROH has been wonderfully entertaining.
And just in terms of how much I love seeing them every time they grace my television, I'd adore one last run for Goldust or Rico.

Does Samoa Joe count? Cause I'd so want him to leave TNA and hopefully his friends in WWE could hook him up with a job there. I've always believed that Samoa Joe would deliver the greatest match of Cena's career if they ever worked together again.

Yoshi Tatsu. Seeing him on ECW wrestling the likes of Christian actually made me a fan of wrestling again after I had stopped watching for about 13 years.
