I still don't get why they have multi-colored skin hues, but, looks promising enough. It obviously takes place in the same universe as Doug.

I think this Sunset Shimmer swerve might be right up there with Luna being comically loud and antiquated as the biggest twist on fandom expectations of a character. I highly doubt anyone pegged her as the villain of Equestria Girls, and it'll make things interesting should she appear in Friendship Is Magic (and given that there are both interdimensional portals and human proxies for ponies, is entirely possible).

If anything, it might mean I'll have to get to stepping for making her in PONYCAR.

So, watched the trailer, and no. Just. No.
Honestly I'm looking less forward to it now. It just seems so.....unnecessary.
That and I still think their human designs look stupid.
And on top of that the trailer just gives me a feeling that this will have every fictional high school cliche in the book, and I hate those cliches, because they are a faaaaaaaaaaaaaar cry from what high school really is like.

As far as this whole Equestria Girls thing is going, even though I said it looked okay-ish, I'm gonna give this a pass. I just don't feel like caring about it right now. Just wake me up when season 4 happens instead.

eh kinda kinda sums up why I find the movie a little unnecessary. Might just be my grumblings about how much I would like to forget high school in general.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by saying the story is "unnecessary"? By default, there isn't any story in the world that needs to be told, so every story is unnecessary really, so I'm assuming that this is based on the whole "Establishing a new toy line" thing.

You know, funny thing is, I still think my pessimistic optimism is probably the best way to go with anything, really. I may not be looking forward to EG, but that means it can only meet or surpass my expectations. By expecting the worst, I can't actually be let down, either it is as bad as I think it looks, or it ends up being better than how I thought it looked. Y'all are still setting up the possibility of being disappointed by this by being just optimistic. With being just optimistic, you open yourselves up to something exceeding, meeting, or falling below your expectations. Pessimism is the best optimism. No, but seriously, that's really what I think. It is much less taxing on my soul to go in dreading something, than to go in with positive hope. For a more recent example of this paying off, I went into Iron Man 3 today dreading the prospect of it, thanks to reading the spoilers for the film and hating those spoilers, walked out of Iron Man 3 thinking it was the best of the Iron Man films. Is it twisted? Maybe, but I'm a lot saner for it.

By default, there isn't any story in the world that needs to be told, so every story is unnecessary really, so I'm assuming that this is based on the whole "Establishing a new toy line" thing. First of all, there are a lot of series out there that deal with high school, both live-action and animated. Only because of its base will it actually get any kind of following. Secondly, this is a lot of pure personal bias - I HATED high school and just about everything that happened in it. I wanted that whole campus to be bulldozed after I graduated to save a few hundred psyches from having to deal with the shit I dealt with. To the point I can't even LOOK at my yearbooks (not touching them, just looking at them) make me angry. Thirdly, a series that is already so popular for what it already is doesn't need this sort of tweak. It's not broken, Hasbro! I'm not really looking at the "Establishing a new toy line" thing because I have zero plans on buying any of the EqG line. That doesn't mean any company shouldn't be allowed to make money using their licenses as they see fit. But again, with so many other shows already focusing on high school, why do I have to see characters that I've already invested time with be put in situations that we see everywhere else?

Has nothing to do with the possibility of creating a new toy line. Has everything to do with why the hell do we need a movie about a Pony going to a parallel world with human versions of them. I mean unless they continue this in the show itself, as in this film's events have an effect on the story of the main show, then why? Ignoring the toy line thing, tell me from a storytelling standpoint we stand to gain from this if this is just a one off side story?
