The Pacer's crowd actually turned me against them last night. That's quit a feat because the last thing I want to see is a repeat champion in any sport. Bosh's ankle goes sideways, he goes to the lockerroom for 10+ minutes and people are screaming "He's a flopper!" 5 minutes later LeBron's ankle gets all twisted, replay shows it's obvious he twisted it... and the crowd starts a huge "flopper" chant. Every foul committed by Miami was THE WORST FOUL EVER OMG JUST TOSS HIM ALREADY, and every foul on the Pacers was "FLOP THE REFS SCREW US AGAIN WE HATE YOU DAVID STERN!" Seriously kids, you took it too far. I'm tempted to say i want to see the Pacers go down in total blowouts because many of their fans don't deserve nice things. I love a rowdy and hostile crowd, but that crowd was acting borderline stupid. We rarely get sellouts. More likely than not, you saw a bunch of assholes than real Pacer fans.

We rarely get sellouts. More likely than not, you saw a bunch of assholes than real Pacer fans. That actually explains a lot. While I may complain about bias and what-have-you (goes with the trade), I have a lot of respect for the Heat, especially LeBron. But, I'm still gonna support my team and hope they make the Finals. You won't believe what people will do during games when the Bulls or the Lakers are in town, and it's almost as if they don't understand basketball or are just there to troll. It's embarassing.

So shouldn't Lebron and who is the other player? Was that Stephenson? Shouldn't they get fined with those flops?

Parts of that game looked like an invisible Tonya Harding was running around on the court wackin' people with a crowbar. ...truth be told, that would be an amazing addition to the game.

I want to say something about the Kings.
When exactly did the Maloofs Jump the Shark in the eyes of Sacramentoians?
Aa recently as 2002 or 2003, they could no wrong in that city.

You do kind of get an uneasy feeling that a Kings/Lakers Game 6 game is creeping up from around the corner here at some point.

So shouldn't Lebron and who is the other player? Was that Stephenson? Shouldn't they get fined with those flops? Like I said in an earlier post, they'll get fined. And then continue to flop because it's working anyway. The fines are pretty trivial, especially when you're making max level contract money. I know basketball's a really tough sport to officiate properly, but last night's officiating was horrendous. I'd say the Heat got the worst of it last night, but the Pacers got some bad calls their way, too. Hope the crew is better in game 5. I also wonder why the Spurs never get good ratings. San Antonio's a big city and the Spurs have been one of the consistently best teams in the NBA for decades now. Tim Duncan's a future first ballot hall of famer and Tony Parker is still a fantastic player.

What was the word thrown around left and right when they won their titles under Duncan? Boring. Everyone outside of San Antonio was calling the Spurs boring. The Spurs have been mentioned so many times in the same sentence as the word "boring" that now all anyone can equate with the Spurs is that they are boring.

The Spurs played some very blah Finals- save for Detroit and games 5-6-7, there wasn't much that stood out against the Knicks, Nets, or Cavs.

The Spurs have been mentioned so many times in the same sentence as the word "boring" that now all anyone can equate with the Spurs is that they are boring. There are lots of reasons casual fans aren't into the Spurs. First, and this is the biggest thing, the Spurs don't like or want attention and go out of their way NOT to get it. Even when Tim Duncan was on the cover of Sports Illustrated and had that big feature article last year, that writer spent YEARS trying to get permission and access. It's not an act or fake humbleness or anything like that; Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich are genuinely very private people who do not like talking about themselves. Although I think that's admirable and it's one of the many qualities I really like about the Spurs, that hurts the NBA's bottom line. There's no story or conflict to sell in San Antonio. Fans need that added storyline or flair, something to be invested in, and the Spurs don't do that. The whole team has taken on that same culture and personality, something they've been very intentional about. When the Spurs are looking at free agents and draft picks, one of the FIRST things they look at is the personality of the player and how they fit in with the rest of the team and the climate. Basically, the Spurs aren't sexy. And they try to keep it that way. Even when the national media wants to cover the Spurs or highlight them more, they have a very hard time getting that access. The second thing is the style the Spurs play, although this has changed in recent years. During their championship runs, they used to be very defensively minded and slower paced. This is much different than their current high scoring and fast paced style, but it is still not exciting to casual fans. There aren't a lot of dunks, and they rely a lot on corner 3's and bank shots. They're very much a machine, and although basketball purists can appreciate it, to the average fan, it's not exciting. There's nothing sexy about an assembly line, which is the offense is. Those two things kind of go hand in hand, and in honesty, I can understand why the Spurs don't appeal to a lot of people, despite how much I love and admire them.

Koda is right. They were associated with "boring" basketball for years. If you're more inclined to enjoy up and down, run it out, play intense defense but turn it directly in to offense teams, they weren't that until 20..10? Whatever the year was that everyone predicted they would finally fall off a cliff because they were too old. Pop totally changed their persona and went to running the ball up and down the floor. They've been that since then. They're legit fun to watch now. But they have a stigma they're stuck with until the roster is different one day.

The "old" stigma the Spurs have annoys me more than the "boring" one does. I'll give you Manu and Timmy being old, but overall this is a very young team. Tony Parker is basically THE guy for San Antonio now, and he's only 31. Kawhi Leonard is a big part of the Spurs current success, and he's only 21. Even guys like Tiago Splitter and Danny Green are in their mid to late 20's.
Duncan is VERY old by NBA standards and is playing the best ball he has in 10 years, so who cares? And Manu is more of a role player now than anything.

Tangentially related, the fact that Duncan is basically the least primadonna superstar in recent history gave us the incredible Onion characterization of him.
