The more of the actual gameplay footage I watch, the more I think "Wow, this is going to be a trainwreck". Going with more surreal environments are an ok idea, but the execution looks way off. It feels like it's going to give a headache just from playing it, like with some of the more poorly designed games of the 90s, or levels like Mad Space in Sonic Adventure 2, with uncontrollable cameras, messy physics, and being almost impossible to figure out where you're going. Oh, and all of those problems are going to make Sonic 06's Mach Speed levels so much more fun.
And that'd be if it was done with the regular control scheme. With all of Sonic's new array of powers and his inbuilt gearbox, it seems like it's just too complex for its own good. All Sonic needed in the classic games was the jump and spindash. The Homing Attack was a necessary addition for 3D, to give the precision that the move from 3D lost. This, though? Sonic doesn't need a projectile attack, flying kicks and all kinds of other bells and whistles.

Footage of the 3DS version. Not too shabby.

With this, DuckTales, Castle of Illusion, and Arkham Origins, it's like there's more games for me to be excited about the closer it is to the end of the year.

Like Generations, the fights with the Deadly Six definitely look like a step up from the "character bosses" of older games.

From the reviews I've read it's more "ehn" with enphasies on "next time can be better".

The 3DS version is the one that's really getting panned. Everyone I've seen that's played the 3DS version says the controls aren't very good.
I liked the Wii U demo though so maybe it's just the 3DS.

Got this for Christmas yesterday. All in all, I have to say that it doesn't quite measure up to Sonic's more recent console outings-- Generations and before that Colors-- but it's still a pretty fun game (albeit surprisingly hard). I'm surprised some are still saying the franchise needs to be put to sleep.
