chikara (the topic title wouldn't let me put it in because of length) and now I'm going to tell you fine people of the wrestle crap boards what I think some of the best moments were during the entire 06 season. *keep in mind this is only chikara*
Best feud: kingston vs. sweeney.
Chances are if someone were to come up to you and say that larry sweeney would be involved in one of the best feuds of the year you'd probably laugh in their face, but low and behold larry sweeney's feud with eddie kingston during the 2006 chikara season was indeed one of the best feuds the entire year. For one thing the feud was made great by involving eddie kingston, a person who makes every feud he's in good on his part for bringing in such emotion to everything he does. Watching kingston just take abuse from sweeney such as being ran over by a car and humiliated in a handicap match really made you root for kingston and put him over as a "tecnico" while at the same time making sweeney one of the better "rudos" in chikara, something they need now that claudio and hero are not a team anymore. Sweeney was also in full 80's heel mode the whole time, heck the whole thing started out on a talk show segment! the only downside to this whole feud was that the final match was anti clamatic due to it being a strap match... in chikara. Still though I would say this was one of the many many things that made the 06 year of chikara fun to watch.
Best newcomer(s) to chikara: 2.0 (shane mathews and jagged)
Sure chikara isn't their home promotion but during the 2006 season they were at so many shows they were regulars. If you haven't seen 2.0 in chikara you really are missing alot. One of my favorite moments though is kind of embarrising on 2.0's part as jagged was having a singles match and he well "slipped", immediatly afterwords shane mathews hopped up on the ring and bent over the ropes yelling, "YOU SWORE! YOU SWORE!" After that Jagged did apologize, be it he was stepping on player uno's throat while he did apologize but you get the idea.
Best commentary for a match in 06: Excalibur and ultramantis black during the young lions cup match at cibernetico forever.
Nuff said.
Biggest crowd reaction during a match: Ultramantis black vs. tex benedict.
I'm still trying to figure out how this happened but for whatever reason tex benedict was insanely over at chikara during the return of the son of the invasion of the international invaders weekend stage 1. How he did it I still do not know but this was a really fun match to watch just to see how over he was and how much heat ultramantis was getting.
Best comedy match of the year: player uno vs. dr. cheung, 5 minute time limit 2-count fall:
not only was this match funny for the sake of the stipulations it was also quick as hell and was probably one of the best dr. cheung matches you will ever see... ok it's the only good dr. cheung match you will ever see but you get the idea.
Best female match: daizee haze vs. allison danger 1 (I forgot the event)
this was at the start of haze's crazy rudo turn and she went full force on allison danger resulting in one of my favorite matches during the 06 year of chikara.
Match of the year in chikara: the cibernetico.
I honestly think it's impossible to have a bad cibernetico match but the way it was done this year was incredible. Sure it was shorter then in previous years but that doesn't mean it was the worst. Everything involved in it made both teams really come off as having heated rivalries with the cibernetico centering around the sweeney/kingston feud and having sweeney pick people who absolutly hate kingston was very smart. Kingston's team also had it's good fair share of heat but not as much as hallowicked and up in smoke really didn't have any issues with the rudos other then the fact that they were well rudos. Still the match had it's good fair share of moments with kingston trying to work the entire cibernetico by himself and only tagging out so he can get his hands on sweeney along with the pop that happened when quack was in the ring with hero and also the finish was great too.
Most memorable moment in chiara: Claudios farewell.
I think this is probably the best farewell claudio is going to get, thankfully it was from one of his home promotions. the way it was done and the way it came off on video (hey I live in illinois, ALL I DID WAS WATCH THE TAPES!!!) really made it feel that everyone in the building was proud of claudio and that he deserved everything that was coming his way. Really one of the best moments in chikara history in my honest opinion.
anyway I hope this was a long enough shill for you to go out and buy some chikara dvd's
