I couldn't find an official thread for the new season, and TONS of news has come out today about Blood vs. Water. First, CBS has unveiled the official cast for the season: www.rickey.org/survivor-blood-vs-water-meet-the-cast-official-photos-video/However, more importantly, Jeff Probst has revealed the new twists for Blood vs. Water: www.rickey.org/survivor-blood-vs-water-new-twists-revealed/ Lastly, here are the profile videos for each of the castaways: www.rickey.org/survivor-blood-vs-water-cast-profiles-video/In essence, this has the potential to be the most divisive season of all-time. It could be a complete trainwreck that Survivor buffs absolutely loathe, or it could end up being a total reinvention of the game that ramps up the drama and strategy. I'm SO stoked! [REMINDER: Please put all talk of what's contained in the two links above behind "spoiler" tags, so those who don't want to know the cast/twists can have those reveals preserved] [NOTE: In case anyone is wondering why I posted my write-up on the articles instead of the actual Entertainment Weekly write-ups, it's for less-mercenary reasons than it seems. As it turns out, the comments section at the EW page has some asshole who is spoiling the boot order. Just wanted to make sure no one stumbles onto that comments section and has things ruined for them]

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Between 90% of the returning cast being really underwhelming and f***ING REDEMPTION ISLAND I really have doubts about this. Probst's boner for Redemption Island is ridiculous. Just kill off the basic concept of Survivor, why don't you.

Just kill off the basic concept of Survivor, why don't you. I'm pretty much in the same camp as you. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Although there is a fairly intriguing strategic component to RI now, in the sense that a person can be swapped out for their loved one in a challenge. So if Monica landed at RI, and the challenge was strength-based, she sub in her husband (as long as he's still in the game) while she goes and chills at his tribe. Of course, if he then loses the challenge, things get complicated because now she's stuck there. So that's somewhat interesting from a dramatic standpoint, although it completely and utterly f***s with the ability to form a coherent Day One strategy that will carry you to the end, since there are more variables in this season than in any other in history. Sure, a certain amount of luck is involved in Survivor, but I HATE when strategy is taken so far out of the component of the game in favor of randomness.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Bottom line, I need some loved ones to step up. That might even be impossible though because NO ONE is ever going to turn on their loved one. Period. There is a crippling flaw in this right away.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Oh, and go Aras I think Roxie will show up to eventually back me on this, but I've done such a turn around on him since his season. Listening to him on Rob's podcast has changed my perception of him 100%. He'll be my hopeful winner going in.

Oh, by the way, one interesting tidbit about the cast: {Spoiler}Candice was a VERY last-minute addition. Reportedly, her spot was originally for R.C. Saint-Amour (Philippines) and her father, but her dad apparently had medical issues and they had to be replaced. So now I'm doubly pissed that, of all people, CANDICE is getting a third playthrough. I LOVED R.C. That said, my entire opinion on Candice would have turned around if she'd have brought Billy from Cook Islands as her loved one.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}I remember what the cast looked like before Rob C's wife got pregnant in January. There was some real potential.
We'll see. Maybe someone will step up and play a phenomenal game and we'll forget the actual people. We can hope. Especially after this season of Big Brother which I can't wait to end.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Bottom line, I need some loved ones to step up. That might even be impossible though because NO ONE is ever going to turn on their loved one. Period. There is a crippling flaw in this right away. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}I could 100% see Tyson selling out his girlfriend. He just seems like the kind of guy who'd say, "Whatever, f*** it." But yeah, the only loved one bonds that could see being broken are the ones that (ironically, given the title of the season) aren't connected by blood, such as Kat/Hayden, Tyson/Rachel, or even Colton/Caleb because Colton's a shit-heel. And even then, one would think those ties outside the game would be strong enough that the game wouldn't suddenly change it.
That said, I wonder how the grand prize would work. I know Survivor rules say that there's no sharing the prize, but one would expect, after the game is over, the winner would share some of that money with their loved one, particularly if said loved one was instrumental in getting them there (and doubly so if the winner is someone who wouldn't have been cast in the first place if their loved one hadn't previously played Survivor).

{Spoiler}...I don't know how I feel about this. Not too keen on the majority of the lineup(Rupert, Tina, Colton, Monica, Candice, I don't even know who Laura is). And honestly, with the potential for someone to switch tribes every episode, this whole thing looks like it's gonna be one big mess.
That and with Redemption Island, that means the Reward and Immunity challenges will be combined for every episode. Which takes away the drama, since the winner doesn't have to be diplomatic about who they take on the reward, since they can't get voted out anyway.
I won't say this season is going to suck, but man. We're in for quite a ride here.

Word, son.
Also, seeing as, ironically, Aras is the only survivor I've ever actually conversed with (and he was lovely), I can't help but root for him. Anyone in a cold weather climate should buy one of his tundra hats, as they're super snazzy.
I hope Rupert goes first. I've never, ever liked him.
Speaking of never, ever liked: Redemption Island. What's "dead" should stay "dead". That goes for this "twist", as well as voted out players.
This cast is one big giant pile of WTF.
Man, Philippines was so awesome and it's like it made them panic and do the opposite of everything that made Philippines so good.

{Spoiler}I swear Probst said RI was dead. Son of a bitch. I don't have high hopes for this season at all.

{Spoiler}{Spoiler}Also double post (sorry). Dear God Gervase looks so old. I watched Borneo a while back and it's just baffling that's the same person. I guess that's 13 years for you huh?

I'm as skeptical as most, but once {Spoiler}{Spoiler}loved ones start turning on each other, that should at least make for some interesting episodes.

This is my first ever season watching Survivor, any advice for a first timer? Watch a better season first I hope you have fun, but some of the stuff they're doing this season isn't usually what Survivor is. It's a convoluted season to drop in on. I hope you like it though! More fans the better.

This is my first ever season watching Survivor, any advice for a first timer? Besides what CMGH just said, do a little research about the show itself. There's a lot of convoluted stuff in there (Idols, Redemption Island, etc.) EDIT: As for recommended seasons, I'd go The Australian Outback, Pearl Islands, The Amazon, and as for newer seasons, Micronesia, China and South Pacific.
