I'm with Waffel on most of those. The one I sent was Pearl Islands. Not a bad starting point for a new fan at all.

Out of the ones Waffel mentioned, China's about the only one I wasn't crazy about. The rest of those I've seen were excellent, though. Also gonna recommend Cook Islands. A lot of people hate it for it's initial twist, but once they merge into 2 tribes, it gets really good. If nothing else, you should watch it so you'll understand why Ozzy is treated as such a threat in Micronesia and South Pacific.
Another one I highly recommend is Philippines. It was the first season in a long time that wasn't utterly predictable after the merge, plus it's notable for a few Survivor firsts.
Also, just because it's the season that made me love the show again, Heroes vs. Villains.

This is my first ever season watching Survivor, any advice for a first timer? Besides what CMGH just said, do a little research about the show itself. There's a lot of convoluted stuff in there (Idols, Redemption Island, etc.) EDIT: As for recommended seasons, I'd go The Australian Outback, Pearl Islands, The Amazon, and as for newer seasons, Micronesia, China and South Pacific. Just to touch on this. If you want to see what made the show so much fun to watch when it started, watch Australian Outback. If you want to see how certain twists enhanced the show, watch Micronesia.

From an editing standpoint, Samoa (since it's basically THE RUSSEL SHOW until about the Final Four). Legit? I don't really know right now. I'll get back to you.

This isn't all of them, but as I go through them in my head these are some that had winners you likely don't expect as the season is progressing: -6: Amazon -7: Pearl Islands -9: Vanuatu And more modern ones: -19: Samoa -20: Heroes vs. Villains (All-Stars) -21: Nicaragua

Different strokes, I guess. After all, I have a love for Thailand that not many people share. I'm gonna throw one out there that not many people mention - Panama: Exile Island. I feel like no one ever talks about that season, but I love it. There's just too much funny stuff that happens, and some classic characters. Kind of like Thailand, actually.

That's funny, because Panama was another one I was going to recommend to Cageking. I just watched it recently and thought it was pretty damn good. A really great cast of characters for that one and the post-swap Casaya tribe was one of the most hilariously dysfunctional tribes ever. {Spoiler}Plus seeing someone put together a true immunity sweep was pretty cool, too. I agree with you about Courtney being the best thing about China, as well.

Casaya really does bring the dysfunction and it's AMAZING. {Spoiler}While the immunity streak was impressive from a physical standpoint, I couldn't STAND Terry. "SOMEBODY CALL THE WAAHMBULANCE, TERRY'S CRYING!" - Aras When Courtney was asked back for HvV, I was stoked. She didn't let me down, either!

You can't blame the guy for being a little put off that his alliance was picked off one by one and he couldn't do anything to help them. I also felt that Aras came off as a jerkass with an inferiority complex. Yeah, I get that he realized he was a threat to be voted off, but after a while, it seemed like he legitimately hated Terry for beating him. I get resentment from losing all the time, but actual hatred? I actually saw HvV first and that's what made me check out China.

It took Rob Has A Podcast for me to come around on him and now I think he's a genuinely cool guy. If you would have told me in 2006 that in seven years, Aras would be back and I'd be actively rooting for him, I would have laughed in your face, but here we are. Still, I found Terry so aggravating. His comment to Danielle at FTC about "you should have taken the Navy guy" was majorly eye-roll worthy to me.
But let's be real - Cirie was totally the MVP of that season. I can't imagine watching HvV before knowing who everyone was. I'd think that'd be difficult, but maybe not, given seasons lately.

It was, especially since that was also the first season I'd seen with Hidden Immunity Idols and only my fourth full season. Although I usually go into most seasons with returning players not knowing who half of them are anyway. South Pacific and Philippines are the only ones I've seen where I knew all the returnees from their earlier seasons.

Oh I am NOT letting this conversation go by without chiming in on Casaya. They are why I re-watched that season a second time (well, and Cirie). {Spoiler}{Spoiler}"I will kill you in your shitty apartment."

Was there anyone you first saw on HvV that when you saw their original seasons, your opinion changed? Cirie, Danielle, and Candice, definitely. {Spoiler}After seeing Micronesia and later Panama, I realized why Tom, JT, and Colby chose Cirie for the blindside. She had a good mind for the game, which we didn't get a chance to really see in HvV.
Danielle, she actually seemed more likeable in her first season. She just had the bad luck of being in an alliance that came off as villains(aside from Cirie and Bruce). But in HvV, she was just Parvati's handmaiden.
Candice... why was she on the Heroes tribe? After watching Cook Islands, I cannot understand that decision. Courtney was more of a hero than her, honestly. Oh I am NOT letting this conversation go by without chiming in on Casaya. They are why I re-watched that season a second time (well, and Cirie). {Spoiler}{Spoiler}"I will kill you in your shitty apartment."

So which is gonna happen first? A family has a complete breakdown and attack each other and come to a knock out drag out fight or some really awkward sex infront of everyone?

Ahhhh man. {Spoiler}So my hopes for this season could not be any lower right now. When the rumors were out there on what this season's theme was going to be, the season already seemed like it would be just a big mess. Relatives competing against each other is something you say would make a good show, but it's not actually something you put into practice. Because in our heads you could see it possibly happening, but in practice, I don't see anyone throwing their daughter, wife, or boyfriend under the bus.
But then Big Brother 15 came, and has basically become the equivalent of One World, and I got my hopes back up a bit for Survivor... and then the cast became official. I really don't care much about most of these returning castaways in the first place. It's nice to see... say... Gervase get another shot, but do we really need to see Candice again? Outside of the first episode of Billy being in love with her, and her getting injured in the first challenge of HvV, I can't remember anything else about her. I was excited to see RC play against some people who weren't insane Abi, but we got Candice instead.
And good lord if Colton makes it past the first episode, it's going to be unwatchable. I loathe that kid as a player, and he seemed like an all-around horrible person on One World.
Ugh. And Redemption Island is back? What does it offer us at this point? That storyline is played the eff out.
Same goes for HII. If they're going to insist on including them in the game, they need to have ONE, and go back to the Exile Island format of Idol hunting. Having two and sometimes three idols in play at a time is absolutely my least favorite thing about Survivor nowadays.
I guess I kind of want to root for Hayden to win since I'm a Big Brother superfan, but I never really liked him or any of the Brigade members in season 12. So... I don't know.
Edit! Realized who I'll be cheering for this season. The Assistant Coach himself, Tyson. Hopefully he can redeem himself for his ultimate screw up in HvV. As for seasons Cageking should check out, I definitely recommend Pearl Islands as my first choice. It's one of only two seasons I actually have on DVD, and it's got all the classic things you'd want in Survivor. Underdogs, larger-than-life characters, and one of the all-time great Survivor villains. Australian Outback is also a favorite of mine, along with Amazon and a few others. Although I'm probably not the best person to give advice, because I actually missed quite a few seasons of Survivor in a row.
