I was watching a segment on The Very Best of Nitro Vol. 1 DVD where Roddy Piper is confronting Eric Bischoff and Bischoff is revealed as being part of the nWo and either police or security guards try to separate Piper and the nWo/Bischoff and the whole thing reminded me of what the WWF would later do with Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince McMahon. I then started to think about things the "big 3" did the Monday Night Wars that were similar or even deliberate copies of angles, segments, wrestlers, etc. For example, going back to the Piper/Bischoff angle Austin during his rivalry with McMahon was very similar, to me anyway heh, to how Piper was in WCW during the early days of the nWo angle. Piper portrayed a badass loner who defied authority and went up against a tyrannical boss, Eric Bishoff. Well, Austin portrayed a badass loner who defied authority and went up against a tyrannical boss, Vince McMahon. Obviously it's not as black and white as that as there were many factors that were different, but the fact they occurred within a year of each other and in the two top wrestling promotions in the North America at that time, it's hard not think maybe that there was some "inspiration" there. What do you guys think? Also, feel free to list some possible examples of your own.

Kai En Tai's dub gimmick was shamelessly ripped off from La Parka and Kaz Hayashi's gimmick

DX was a ripoff of the nWo
Buzzkill was a shamless ripoff of Road Dogg

HBK/HHH and Hogan/Nash both did "fingerpokes of doom".

I dont really see the DX as a NWO ripoff. DX were never concerned with taking over the WWF unlike the NWO.

WWE tried to launch a Light Heavyweight Division to compete with WCW's Cruiserweights. They did have Taka Michinoku who is amazing but not a lot of other talent away from him.
On the other end. WCW ripped off the WWF Hardcore division which WWF brought to main stream television.

D-X may not be a direct rip off of the nWo, but the similarities are there. Both were rebellious, cutting-edge groups that used hand gestures as a sign of solidarity and wore t-shirts that were essentially their version of "gang colors".

I think an issue with the Light Heavyweight Division initially was that a couple guys the WWF wanted to be centerpieces in the division didn't work out for whatever reason. Like Scott Putski was getting a fairly big push then he blew out his knee.

NWO seemed like a bunch of Hogan cronies.
DX seemed a bunch of practical jokers.
I see no similarity.

After the WWF had their rookie Samoan blue chipper upset their blue blood midcard champion, WCW had their rookie Samoan blue chipper upset their blue blood micard champion. Of course, The Rock never did reach the heights that Prince Iaukea did.

Still impressive considering that there was only a 3 and a half year span or so after the Screwjob and WCW going out of business.

At the time they seemed very similiar to me Both had Kliq members they did some of the same hand signs, (wolfpac and crotch chop) actually nWo did crotch chop first, so i saw it as DX nodding to them when they first started Both wore Black and White Tshirts DX tagged things with spray paint too DX initially was offering memberships (Anvil, Kane) So the initial DX seemed very much a nod to the nWo.

It was more parody I guess, but when Russo and Ferrara showed up as "the Powers that Be" the Harris Bros became Patrick and Gerald, and Virgil became Shane.

I believe each promotion included a failed run by "Dr. Death" Steve Williams

I can't remember the guys involved but there was one time on Raw where Wrestler A wanted to take Wrestler B's title and then I flipped over to Nitro and they were doing the EXACT SAME STORYLINE with Wrestler C and Wrestler D

Billy Gunn and Lex Luger were both blonde, and flexed their muscles a lot, and kinda looked alike?
