Right now, Ryne Sandberg is making his big return to Wrigley Field as manager of the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. Currently 1-0 Cubs, bottom of the 2nd. And they turned an eventual 5-0 lead into a 6-5 loss. Just like having a 6-0 cushion against the Padres (before an out was recorded!!!), and lose 8-6. If I was a Cub fan, I'd be an alcoholic.

Did anybody order a double shutout between the Mariners and the Astros at the beggining of the 8th?

So the Red Sox designated Daniel Bard for assignment. I feel bad for the kid. Looked like he was going to be a stud reliever that might've eventually made the transition to Papelbon's successor as closer. But the Red Sox completely Joba'd him.

The Pirates collapse starts today I hope so. Even though the bats finally got off their butts today, they're scaring me.

Brett Oberholtzer tossed a four-hitter -- his first career complete game and first career shutout -- against the Mariners on Sunday.

So the Red Sox designated Daniel Bard for assignment. I feel bad for the kid. Looked like he was going to be a stud reliever that might've eventually made the transition to Papelbon's successor as closer. But the Red Sox completely Joba'd him. Yeah, I agree. What the Red Sox did to Daniel Bard is a travesty. I've written plenty about it in the past, but anyone with eyes or a functioning brain could have seen this coming. But for whatever reason, the organization was insistent on making him a starter, despite the fact that he had never succeeded as a starter at any level of professional baseball. It was a disaster waiting to happen and the Red Sox were all too happy to exacerbate it. I'm still befuddled why they even considered making him a starter in the first place. He was one of the best relief pitchers in baseball for three consecutive seasons and he had a track record of ineffectiveness as a starter. It's unbelievable that they took a guy who could have been the heir apparent to Jonathan Papelbon and decided to muddle around with him and completely ruin him. It'd be akin to the Astros in 2000 being like, "Hey Billy Wagner, we know you're smashing all expectations as a reliever and you have all the talent in the world to be one of the best closers in the game...wanna be a middle-of-the-road fifth starter?" I want to say, "Bard's only 28, maybe he'll get it figured out and be back." But he won't be. They screwed him up in the 2011-12 offseason and he hasn't been the same since. It's been almost two years since he was a competent pitcher, he's not going to get it back. But hey, at least he ate up innings at the start of 2012, and that's where a pitcher is most valuable, right guys?

Yadier Molina was pulled from Monday's game against the Reds due to left wrist soreness.

This game is going pretty well for the Yasks so far. 6-0 with no one out and because of the rain delay, Phil Hughes got taken out of the game in favor of David Huff.

Joba Chamberlain knows what Daniel Bard is somewhat experiencing. He should be in his 7th year as a "Get to Robertson, who gets to Rivera" guy or a spot "Get to Rivera" late innings guy.
This starting stuff really screwed him over.
Thank goodness the Reds didn't go that route with Chapman.

I wanna laugh at how badly the White Sox are, but then I remember they swept the Yanks a few weeks ago.

I'd put a claim in on Bard in a heartbeat. Especially if you have a guru on the coaching staff.
And, yeah, White Sox Dumpster Fire. SRSLY. Tyler Flowers, catcher of the future, is now out 3-6 months with shoulder surgery.
