IMPORTANT BREAKING: NESN is interviewing the guy who threw a slice of pizza at another fan 6 years ago And there's another guy sitting next to him who brought a sign announcing the event. Next time I go to a game at Jacobs Field I'm going to look for that fat guy with the giant orange afro who tumbled out of the seats trying to grab a foul ball in the 2001 ALDS.

The Pittsburgh Pirates will not have a losing season. I've been waiting a long, long time to say that. While it's obviously not the ultimate goal, it's amazing to say. I've been a fan of this team for so long. Sat through some awful baseball. This season has been special. Now the monkey is off our backs. Pirates can focus on winning the National League Central title and more.

Phil Hughes has been demoted to the bullpen. This is the best way for the Yanks to stay competitive for that second Wild Card spot. The guy taking his place in the rotation, David Huff, has been fantastic and deserves a start. Now if only they could demote Joba to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

I certainly don't want to burst your bubble (as the odds of this happening are one in a billion at this stage of the season), but the Pirates are not at .500 yet. It is possible for them to finish the regular season 81-81 and be in a two game tie for the second wild-card seed in the NL. If that's a the case, they'd have a one game playoff (with Arizona or Washington it would seem) and losing that game makes them 81-82, as it counts towards the regular season. I'm afraid officially ... you have one game to go. If anybody can screw this up, it's the Pirates

Now that it's finally over, think about the World Series. And, thank your Triple A affiliate, as well. The Indians won the IL West for a second year in a row and face Durham in the playoffs.

Since the Reds and Cards play the Pirates, it would be statistically impossible for this scenario to happen. Since when the Reds or Cards play the Pirates one of those teams has to win. So yes 81 wins makes a .500 season a definite.

The Cubs have put a claim on Daniel Bard. The Cubs are the bums of MLB. Living of other's trash. God, I hope Baez, Bryant, Almora, and Soler pan out.

On MLB Network they were talking about the 20th anniversary of Jim Abbott's no-hitter. Larry Bowa mentions that the Indians put out a solid lineup that day.
"You got guys like Lofton, Ramirez, Thome, lots of star talent. Ortiz..."
Yes, because Junior Ortiz was a world-changing superstar.

Matt Adams is a beast. He's one of those players in past generations would have folk songs and tall tales about ripping apart a tree with his bare hands to make a bat and hit home runs with it.

My dad got it right when Abbot was in his prime too. Unrelated but Marlon Byrd has continued to hit in Pittsburgh. Very happy for him and the Bucs.

I'd like to be able to watch the Houston Astros vs. the Oakland A's tonight. It's Peacock vs. Gray. I'm expecting a real contrast in styles.
