They need to have more ppv's with unique settings like this one. It might make a show stand out.

The problem with WM9 is that it has no matches where you can say THAT'S the match that stands out for that WrestleMania that you can go back and watch.
You have basically three decent enough matches (Tatanka / Michaels, Luger / Perfect, Headshrinkers / Steiners) and a bunch of stinkers.
Now, I don't believe any of these have been put out on any comps... Taker VS Gonzalez made it on Taker comps due to it being in the streak and I'm thinking Hogan / Beefcake VS Money Inc was on the Hogan set too, but neither of these two matches can be considered classics by any stretches. So the staying power of the show is pretty much zero.
Then you have the waste that was Ramon VS Backlund... You could have had a decent match out of both these guys against different opponents, would it have been a bother to let Rick Martel have a payday to put Ramon over?!? And maybe have a guy like Jerry Lawler work Backlund, I mean I'm sure Lawler could have a field day making fun of Backlund back then...
Weird show for sure, but definitively a show I remember for the setting.

I always loved the look and staging of the show: Monsoon and JR in togas, the opening parade with Heenan on the camel - it was all unique and good fun.
But as others have said, it's the booking that let the show down big time. They wasted Bret Hart who was obviously their top talent as he would've had to work a minor miracle to work around Yoko (he says in his autobiography that he had laid-out a decent plan with Yoko, but during the match the big guy tired very quickly or something), The Undertaker match was horrendous, Tatanka vs. HBK could've been really good but had a poor finish and ended-up probably being the worst of their series up to that point (Tatanka really should've won the title in my view), Perfect vs. Lugar was a big let-down as they showed no chemistry together and that was another poor finish. Also as has been mention having Savage not competing was a big waste (I'd have had him main eventing with Bret; Yoko's push could've waited an extra couple of months).
The Hogan tag match maybe was the pick of the matches, as that at least delivered what was expected (though that had another screwy finish), but then he came back out at the end...

Lawler was going to wrestle Tenryu at WM9 (In fact, Tenryu even worked a tv taping prior to WM9) but for some reason the match was dropped.

I don't know how better to phrase this, but to me, WM9 was the last Wrestlemania to have the "Wrestlemania" feel to it. I mean that in the grandiose spectacle aspect. After that, they just seemed to be really big arena/stadium shows.

My favorite part was when Backlund offered Razor Ramon a handshake and Razor threw his toothpick into his face. I have no idea why but that has always been hilarious to me.

From 17 on, they went more spectacle to me...at least from a few of the matches that they booked.

It's not a *great* WM by any stretch, but I like it & prefer it to WM XI I prefer both of them to XII or XV, although you'll have to pin my eyes open if I have to last through XI in one sitting.

A few good things I can say about Wrestlemania 9:
The setups WERE cool.
The girls that accompanied Lex Luger to the ring were very sexy.
Razor Ramon (Scott Hall) had a pretty good - if one-sided - match against Bob Backlund.

Cleopatra and Luger's valet's made a big impression on me.
I really wish they would do more themed events like this.
