The tag team titles gain a lot more from being held by The Shield than The Shield or anyone else would gain by holding the tag team titles. The Shield should only drop the titles when:
1. It's time to break up The Shield, with the title loss being one symptom of them losing their cohesion. 2. There is a team that has stepped up to the level where it's undeniably the best choice to give them the belts over The Shield.
The longer The Shield hold their titles and continue to be an imposing upper card presence the more those titles accrue prestige.

I'm totally fine with them still having the straps. PTP would be my first choice, but I'm a huge fan of all three members of the Shield and I don't see them dragging down the belts or division in any way.

Oh God, it just occurred to me they're going to lose them to Los Matadores after a bullfight sequence involving Reigns' spear, and it's going to be really stupid. ... I want this to happen now. If this doesn't happen when they fight The Shield, then the whole Los Matadores gimmick has failed.

The problem is that they've been pushed so hard that they're above the belts, so the belts are "stuck" as long as they have them. They have no credible opponents unless main eventers step down (or in the case of Ziggler, have backstage heat). None of the REAL midcarders who should be fighting for the titles are credible threats to them.

It's not a situation like a singles wrestler becoming too good for the IC strap, as the tag belts are meant to be the pinnacle for the best full-time tag team. I do see what you mean, but I think the problem (as usual) is the failure of the writers/bookers to tell stories that express the importance of belts other than the WWE title. The Shield's long reign and dominance aren't the problem, it's the lack of building up babyface teams who (A) actually seem to care about the gold and (B) come across as convincing threats.

I thought the Tag Team division was booked horribly for NoC.
The Tag Team Turmoil match was a mess where everyone was rushing to get their spots in. The Real Americans looked decent taking out Tons of Funk and the Usos, but the PTP coming in last hitting two big boots, a couple of slams and then a finisher was pretty weak and anti-climatic. Nevermind that they had a thrity minute pre-game show to flesh it out, build it up, etc... Nah need more video montage reruns.
Then during the Tag Titles match they really missed out on something. Titus vs Reigns should have been a big deal, that didn't get addressed at all.
and FWIW, I would have booked the Tag Title match to be Four-Way match. Shield vs. Prime Time Players vs. Real Americans vs. Tons of Funk. Where the Shield retaining makes them look better for surviving a four way, but they could retain without pinning PTP or whoever you want to push.
Oh and put Usos vs 3MB on the pre-game; winner faces the champs on post-PPV RAW.
Now tell me that this isn't "best for business"

Because, "Guy has Reigns beaten, Rollins dives in from nowhere, Rollins gets run off, SPEAROUTTANOWHERE!" is a winning formula. I don't think I'll ever get tired of Reign's spear out of nowhere. it even shows up on the 3 end of a 15 on 3 beatdown. then again kofi WAS there...

Do the Shield even defend their belts? Outside of PPVs that is? Does ANYONE defend their belts outside of PPVs?

Because the Shield are main eventers or upper mid-carders and while the belts are currently of tangential importance, when the corporation angle starts to fall to pieces they will finally lose the belts to someone, and the Shield don't lose, so that will be a big deal.

Normally I wouldn't think the Usos would be on the level of The Shield but during their match at Money in the Bank they made me believe. I think the Usos and PTP are over enough now that they could beat Rollins and Reigns and it would be believable.
