Finally caved in and watched Equestria Girls (or the last half of it, because I didn't even know it was going to be on YTV today until I logged on here, but I digress.)

Yeah I can see where a lot of the criticisms of the film came from in the last half of act 2 and all of act 3 where it basically became "Introduce an obstacle, overcome it ten seconds later" over and over again until the end credits.

Yes I do know the original series has done that kind of thing before and anyone would be naive to think otherwise.

But while Television does follow the same basic narrative structure as film, TV obviously has less time to tell a story so some allowances have to made...but this was a feature length movie people expect the drama to stretched out as far as possible because the stakes are higher and the victories should mean more when they are overcome in a grander fashion.

So unless there was some great stuff in the first half of the film there is really no reason for me personally to revisit this spin off again anytime soon.

But I do give props to YTV for airing the full uncut theatrical version of the film.

You have basically pointed out my biggest gripe with the film as well, Rumble. It needed a longer runtime for some of the conflicts to develop.

But instead, it really became like you said. Obstacles getting removed in 10 seconds flat.
