Let's see how far this gets in a forum mostly comprised of North Americans and Europeans. ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) Anyway, two big days of Australian sport coming up... one final will be tomorrow (Saturday afternoon Australian time), that being the AFL Grand Final featuring 2012 runners-up Hawthorn Hawks taking on first-time grand finalists Fremantle Dockers, and the other final will be next week (Sunday night Australian time), that being the NRL Grand Final featuring perennial contenders Manly Sea Eagles and the winner of Sydney Roosters/Newcastle Knights (played tomorrow). My teams in both leagues are long gone, so I have no investment in the results, but I'm sure there's at least 1 or 2 people here who do. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I'm picking Hawks to win Grand Final tomorrow, though Fremantle as the underdogs would be a better victory. As for NRL, I don't know, that's some crazy Northerner sport. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Yes,
Glad the Hawks are in, two years in a row. Hopefully they actually win it this time. Really increadibly glad they finally beat Geelong last week... I was so pleased with that result that I almost forgot the Grand Final itself.
My Prediction: Hawks by about 30. Norm Smith Medal: Isaac Smith.

Big comeback here from Fremantle in the third quarter, and they're back within striking distance of Hawthorn. Scores are 8.8.56 to 6.10.46 going into the final quarter.

Brian Lake, who was discarded by Western Bulldogs and traded to Hawthorn for this season, wins the Norm Smith Medal for man of the match.

Brian Lake, who was discarded by Western Bulldogs and traded to Hawthorn for this season, wins the Norm Smith Medal for man of the match. I wouldn't quite say discarded. He didn't want to play with us this year because we wanted to develop a new full back and have him play as our full forward. He didn't and, since he was contracted and we didn't want a pouting Brian Lake sitting about, we arranged a trade to a team that needs a good full back.

Sydney Roosters win the second NRL preliminary final 40-14 over Newcastle Knights, and as such will play Manly Sea Eagles in the grand final next week.

Now that I have calmed down a bit. Some thoughts on the Might Hawks victory:
Last week at three quarter time at the prelim final against Geelong.. I thought the Hawks were done. Season over after such a dominating season. Being 20 points down at that stage of the game is really deflating (in sake of comparison: It's sort of like being down by a touchdownand a field goal in American football going into the two minute drill). So from the brink of defeat to winning the ultimate prize a week later must make season 2013 one of my absolute favorites as a Hawks supporter.
Yeah the Grand Final match itself was not great. But there was some good highlights. Not one of the worse some punters are saying (The 2005 GF between Sydney and West Coast was an absolute snoozefest until the final 10 minutes).. Ross Lyon (Dockers coach) is a good coach, but his style is one of the worst from the spectators point of view. Flooding the defense and little goal scoring.
Anyway a great win. Nice that the Hawks finally got rewarded for two seasons of dominance. Good to finally end the so called Kennett curse last weekend. Bought a 2013 Premier shirt which I hope to wear with pride during my Las Vegas/LA holiday in December.
Hawks beat every team this year..... Except one.... Bloody Tigers.
Anyway GO HAWKS!
