I was just going through some old tapes and I remembered just how BAD ASS Taz was in ECW.
The first person I heard say the F bomb during a promo was Taz. He had some great matches with Sabu and Shane Douglas.
Then he went to the WWF, had a great match with Kurt Angle, then died off in midcard hell. But to this day, I still mark excessively for Taz because he could probably kill me if he wanted.

Anybody can do a suplex but only one man can execute a Tazplex.

Comparing modern day Tazz to ECW Taz is like comparing two completely different people, it's crazy how badass he used to be.

I too marked for Taz.
Then, I heard him insist he wasn't towing the company line by shilling for the new "ECW." Then, I heard him try to pretend the Hammerstein ballroom wasn't crapping all over the Batista/Big Show main event. Then I heard him say, "That was so cool!" during the EEC.

Taz is a big influence on me, since I am build somewhat similarly to him (not like a brickhouse, but short and stocky). If I had to be a wrestler, I'd very much like to be like him.
Now, it's kinda perplexing to hear him go on about something like Knox throwing down Kelly Squared and saying it's one of the most brutal things he's ever seen in a ring, when this is the man who choked out Tajiri with barbed wire.

I appreciate and respect that. But I don't mark for it.

Could anyone explain to me the difference between the 'safe' Tazzmission and the actual Tazmission?

Despite my current disdain for the man, I can't deny that in the original and true ECW, he kicked all kinds of @$$.

From Wikipedia:
The wrestler puts his opponent in a half nelson with one arm and grabs the opponent's neck with the other. This hold is very similar to the judo choke hold known as a katahajime. This choke was popularized in professional wrestling by Taz as his finisher the Tazmission.
The only difference is that guys actually sold it in ECW.

Check out Samoajoe.com and go to media and then sounds, there you can listen to two parodies Joe did as Samoa Taz. One of them is a movietrailer called 'Love me or I'll make your bitch ass tap'. Very funny.

I got to the Original ECW party kind of late, but the more I found out about Taz, the more I liked him. Watching this short, compact powerhouse tossing guys around left and right was pretty awesome, so watching him devolve into a joke once he went to the WW(F)E, was rather disappointing.
Nonetheless, I still watch my Best of Taz compilation tape, and I also find myself humming the opening strains to KISS' "War Machine" every now and then.
I'd also mark big time if Lashley threw a couple Hard-Way-Head & Arm Tazzplex in the middle of a match, then popped up and pointed, with a knowing grin, to Tazz at the commentary table.

And that he wants Low-Ki's ice cream.

And I'd just like to add...Overhead Tazmission Tazplex.
Through A Table.

Taz was one of the best monster-type characters in wrestling. It's pretty funny considering his size. Oh yeah, Taz > Goldberg.

And I'd just like to add...Overhead Tazmission Tazplex. Through A Table. I loved that move! In the footage I recall of him hurling Sabu through a table propped up in the corner, there's that brief moment where Taz locks in the hold, and Sabu's feet are floating centimetres off the mat. Suddenly, Sabu lurches backward, and is folded in half as he's driven through the table. That "floating Sabu" moment was so awesome, because it established that it was all Taz providing the initial explosive acceleration to pull off the move. Sidenote apropos of nothing: My girlfriend is a University of Tennessee fan, and during football season she flies a UT flag from her car window. The design she flies features an orange "Power T" on a black field. It looks just like the one Team Taz used to march to the ring with.

This choke was popularized in professional wrestling by Taz as his finisher the Tazmission. The only difference is that guys actually sold it in ECW. I think there's a version of the Tazmission that is legitimately dangerous and can put someone out in a few seconds flat. And then there's the 'safe' one, which looks similar but won't put them to sleep. Much like there's ways of putting on the Cobra Clutch. I was just curious what the difference was.
