how much does it cost to run there?
I see and hear about Indies running there all the time, so it can't be that expensive. It looks great on TV. It has a history with wresting from ECW/WWE/ROH I'm surprised that TNA doesn't go there for one of its tapings (or permanent location), or WWE didn't go there for the occasional NXT show. Or even smackdown considering how small the turnout is for them these days. Why'd TNA go for all these large arenas, instead of a a really cool smaller places like the Ballroom's and civic auditoriums like WWE used to when they were downsizing?
Also, whatever happened to the original TNA Asylum? Can't go back there? They had a live show every week back when they had even less money. It's also in Nashville, TNA's real headquarters.

They probably don't go there because they see the ROH crowds in NYC and think, yeah I don't want these idiots on TV. As for the Asylum I believe it's still open because I think ROH are taping there in February, might be wrong but I think that's where they're taping.

The Hammerstein Ballroom and the Manhattan Center cost money to run there. There is a reason why a company like ROH only run there for a big show instead of a regular house show/tv taping. About as much as running in a mid-sized arena with less tax breaks. The crowd demographic got little to with it. Remember how brutal the Philly crowd was suppose to TNA years ago? They treated Hogan like it was 1985. WWE like sticking to bigger arenas so they can come off big time on tv. TNA likes to do the same thing with there tv tapings. The Nashville Fairground aka the Asylum is being run by a indie promotion called NWA SAW. Other indies occasionally run there. ROH is doing a tv taping there in a couple of months.

Well personally I always dislike when ROH run shows at the Hammerstein/Grand Ballroom because I know the crowd is going to be shit. It's quite a shared opinion on other forums too and that's why I said I wouldn't run there if I was TNA. |

I really like the established-looking smaller arena/TV taping set look for wrestling shows. The Manhattan Center RAWs and WCW Saturday Nights/Worldwides of my younger fan years just looked really great to me.
So I rather miss the look & feel of the Impact Zone TNA shows.

I think they should take the risk and just move to NY permanently , it has gotta be better than having to tuck their tail between their legs and run back home to orlando or try for vegas which doesn't seem to be ripe with wrestling fans.

Sting comes out "Change the channel!" TNA doesn't need that. Not true. They gave a standing ovation to Brooklyn Brawler of all people, and Kurt Angle of course. But you promote an ECW show and give them Batista vs. The Big Show, and you deserve to get shit on. I don't see why this should deter TNA from promoting and delivering an Impact taping from Hammerstein. |

I love the look, the sound and the history of Hammerstein, but for whatever reason it attracts the most homophobic racist backward stereotypes of smarkier-than-thou wrestling fans. These are people who chant "FAG-GOT" in public in 2013. They don't deserve a quality TNA show. And I say this as someone who attended the last three ROH events there.

I think promotion and presentation has a lot to do with it as well. If you look back to the (often maligned) Hardcore Justice show of a few years ago (the one with the Dudleys vs Rotten/Balls and RVD/Sabu in the main event). The crowd at that show was pretty much geared up for an ECW tribute show, because that's what TNA had pretty much promised, and they actually DELIVERED.
OK a lot of the talent was way past their prime, TNA couldn't use the name "ECW" or a lot of the names that the wrestlers were known by ("Kahoneys" anyone?), but as far as they were able, TNA gave the fans what they had promised they'd give them, and the crowd were loud, raucous AND appreciative.
Promote the show as what it IS - an episode of Impact or a TNA PPV, without trying to imply anything to appeal to the more rabid ECW diehards, then actually put on a good show - plenty of talent in ring, minimum promos/skits and they should be alright.
